Anyone a member of the Maserati Club? Is it worth joining, is the £65 fee worth it?, going by the website, all it seems to give you is a magazine.

I am - there are plenty of events if you can get on them, a magazine and a quarterly newsletter oh and a windscreen sticker……marginal value

The breakaway club is pushing the more modern cars, say post 2000, were as the original club tends to be the older cars, and more 'posher' dare I say for events and trips!

Yeh, I did think it looked a bit "posh" & looking at the board of directors, sort of confirmed

I was going to ask the same question!

I am a member of one of the clubs and for full disclosure am a representative for the Surrey and Kent region. In all honesty and without wanting to get myself in trouble with either of the main "pay" clubs or this community it is not an easy question to answer and a lot depends on what you want from a club and where you are located.

As a starting point you are probably already part of one of the best Maserati communities in the UK and maybe the world? With a host of experience there is probably nothing this group cant help you with, advise on, or engage with both online and for real.

The pay clubs may well send you a magazine a number of times a year and possibly a newsletter, there will also be events that are "exclusive" some of these may be of interest, others not or certainly in my case hard to justify due to either cost or other commitments etc. - is this sufficient for the money? There will also de discounts for certain services although that if not always exclusive and i am sure SportsMaserati may well offer some or offer advice on ways to negate the savings.

For me I joined SportsMaserati before i even bought one, they offered invaluable advice on what I should look out for and get checked, ok you still have to go in with eyes open but I dont think any group could have given more help - some not always what you want to hear (don't buy a 3200 get a 4200 for example).

I have wondered about the worth of every pay club I have ever belonged to and in the end I have just decided they are worth it if you feel sufficiently happy to part with the money to be part of that club, if you just want sufficient reward you may feel a bit let down, also like many things what you get out of any group or club is down to how involved you get or put in your self.

Sorry not a lot of help - I would be tempted to say, see what they do in your area or what events they do and if it is your sort of thing before parting with the money.

These days I only belong to two pay clubs, the Maserati one and the GRRC, I have wondered about both on numerous occasions and yet I renew each year so something works for me at least.

Yes a few are a bit posh but not all of them! I think the Original club were a bit slow to embrace newer cars or those that are maybe "lesser models" but i think that has changed quite a bit recently.

Thank you for the comprehensive response.
Just from the replies her, Im probably not going to join. I can probably get everything I need here, & so far everyone has been very helpful.
I'll probably just put my wallet away on this one... Maybe use the £65 to buy some grill bling from Ali express

**used far too many "probably`s"

The original club also say you get discount with Locktons - I never have, or if it's been applied they are still laughably expensive. To give it context at least £2500 more expensive! I wasn't happy about the chairmans response to a data leak either so won't be re-renewing it.

Sounds reasonable, If in the future the pay clubs offer something that appeals, that may be the point you wish to join, in the meantime enjoy the car and contribute to the forum.

I'm a member of the original, but, it came as a requirement for Locktons insurance, which I'm happy with.
Whether Locktons accept the new club, I don't know.

I went on the club's stand at the Classic Car Show last November and the gentleman I chatted to, where owned one of the Quattroportes on the stand and had another, order Maserati I tucked away at home, seemed friendly enough and not cliquey or elitist.

I agree - not elitist - well I'm a member!!

The "you can't see our website unless you join". Is actually the main thing that put me off. How can I tell if I want to join, if I can't see what you are like.

Slightly contrary view is the members that I've met, and the way the club is pitched is more about lifestyle than cars....

...I have no desire to join.

Joined when I bought the 3200 and left after two years when I found that the (then) club secretary couldn't be bothered to reply to emails. It's true that I don't have any red trousers or smoke cigars, and although my taste in plonk is more Majestic than Tesco it's not exactly Chateau posh.

Still, I'm 'appy........ :)

I was a member when I owned the Merak. I remember trying to engage with them on a club rally through Scotland, I saw them at Knockhill and Perthshire. Unfortunately the majority at that time came across as aloof and or cliquey. I let my membership lapse. This forum gives me everything I require to enjoy and keep my Maserati on the road now.

I think it is fair to say this group gives pretty much all that most owners / enthusiasts require, I would say that the clubs are in no way an alternative or replacement to this group / forum but do maybe offer something slightly different which can complement activity here and ownership - if you want.

With regards to groups and clubs being "cliquey" I think that most can appear to be so at times and it is something that many groups (but not all try to avoid), as a new person it is easy to perceive this to be the case even if not so. I remember when I joined here i found it very welcoming, to the point that I decided to attend one of the breakfast clubs with the group (long time ago), I have to say I thought it seemed very cliquey and nowhere as warm as the forum had seemed, however I think the truth was, I was new at didn't know anyone, some of the key members were busy and the others like most of us find it easy to talk to people we know and are not intending to appear aloof etc. - At least I hope that was the case.

That said I think the original club were very poor at welcoming new members but hopefully that is changing, but like any group there will be a mix, some we like, some we don't and others just odd.

We are all different and may not be looking for the same from each part of 'society' we join.

Make your own judgement, and whilst one cost a few pounds it may meet your needs or not... only you can decide.
