Good spot on the urraco mark. Didn’t the Miura also use Fiat lights? At the front? Sure I heard Gandini tell the tale that the lashes were used to disguise the Fiat lights?
Yes mk1 850 Spider lights. Before they reverted to upright lights.

Love them. But I’m the same... couldn’t have red. Apart from my pathological hatred of the colour red and everything associated with it.... Mine would have to be in yellow, to match the colour of the one in my Top Trumps, World Class Cars from 78 (Bora = yellow, 365BB = blue, Countach = orange, Montreal = gold, Stratos = orange)... ok but whisper it one of the Monteverdis was red and so was the Daytona....

The HAI was red but the Palm Beach was brown, sometimes yellow and 375L was green I think

If it’s a good example and you can buy it, you should. It’ll always be worth the money, so a very low risk but high fun investment.
It’s been taken apart and painted very well and the only negatives are it’s been done with 2 pack and all the hardware fixings are not correct. Can be put right over time but it’s all the money and should correct. It’s nice but not a 90 plus point car.

I had the race car done in two pack about 15 years ago. It might not be quite right on a 60s car but it’s not affected by brake fluids, fuels etc.
I’m in two minds what to use on the corvette.

Serious question: How the **** do you tell?

C

Two pack especially if it has a clear coat looks wet. Cellulose although shiny doesn’t have the same sort of depth of gloss. Modern water based paints kind of sit between the two.

There’s also coach enamels and urethanes you could geek out for hours.

Yes. It's two minis?

I mean, I can see a difference, but no more than, say, a car that's been decently polished and one that's not?

In no way am I doubting you, BTW, just have no idea what I'm looking for / have been looking at

Thats kind of it. Two pack looks shinier.

There’s a noticeable depth to the shine in two pack of you put them side by side you’d see

This is about as shiny as you’ll get cellulose it’s not got the depth of reflection of the mini at the bottom.

Small world!

VMR 889 was bought by a member of my family in April 1960 and was passed down to me around 15 years ago with only around 80k on the clock, although by then the body was in pretty poor condition - subframe mounts shot, tub rotten etc. It was subsequently given a comprehensive restoration by the next owner, a very diligent guy who did shed loads of work before respraying it in the original colour; at one point he asked me why/when the rocker box was changed as it was the wrong shade of green for such an early car! The interior was so good that he kept it as original. VMR was featured on the cover of Mini World, and later displayed at the Cowley Centenary Exhibition.

A couple of wip pics:

I thought clear coat only went on top of metallic two pac. Solid didn't normally have a clear coat.

That's a lovely Mini OB. I have a soft spot for original Minis (and remember watching Longman et al back in the day) and can't be doing with all these new-fangled retro ones; I know they're on trend but it just ain't right....

I didn't have the skill to restore VMR and was quoted stupid money to have it done so let it go. I still have the 1960 invoice though.
