I thought clear coat only went on top of metallic two pac. Solid didn't normally have a clear coat.
Mine is two pack without a clear. But clear on top of base is pretty much the standard now, especially with water based paints. It’s the clear that gives the UV protection and hardness. Theres a bit of a continental divide the Americans generally use clear on top of everything
The old clear on metallic was to give a smooth finish. If you put metallic on thick enough to flow all the partial one up and you loose some of the the sparkle.
