Manual Gearbox Short Shifter

Hi

I may be mistaken but I read somewhere that the manual box in a 4200 is a Getrag 6 speed as used in a BMW M5?

If this is the case, I have experience of this box, and found that in BMW application, the throw in factory spec is very long. This is simply cured by changing to a shorter shift as found in later / alternative BMWs and I have done this on all my M5's - which has greatly improved the throw and feel in the box. They are actually a great gearbox, but need that tighter shorter shift.

So my question is - to owners of Manual 4200s out there - have you done the same with a shorter shift and does it work well or are there problems when trying to do this, with the interior design of the transmission tunnel preventing an effective shortening of the shifter?

Thanks

Its the 3200GT that has the Getrag fitted,I find mine a little difficult to use until I'ts warmed up

So how do you modify the linkage

+1 , you can't open the box because nuts are "auto-braking" or sometink like that. Not exactly the same of a M5.

Other thing, got you the mesuration of the rubber seal coupling (donuts) ?

The 4200 box is the same as the CC system but in the manual version the robatise system is replaced by gear linkage which requires fine setup to make it work well.

Sorry for asking silly question. How could I tell if my manual transmission is original or a modified short-shifted one?
