at the risk of sounding dim, that all sounds a bit odd, really cant see why the engine had terminal issues purely because it had Fuchs 5w/30 oil, no talk of checking oil pump as possible cause and was it already smoking from the supplying dealer ?

Edit: Fuchs/titan is great oil as well, used in motorsport and I use it in my group b rally motors

Two things here. First it’s an expensive car, don’t skimp when it’s under warranty. Yes MD servicing costs more than an independent but the warranty is good, with some exceptions.

Second I’ve had mine for almost 3 years and as far as I know the oil recommendation over here has always been 5w40. So the 5w30 must have been prior to 2016 so the supplier was working on very old recommendations.

What a complete load of ********! Can he seriously think that a "top up" of a different grade Oil is going to wreck an engine? I hate to think how many engines I should have written off over the years for topping up with what oil I had to hand at the time. Do I advocate using the wrong grade.....no, but a lot better than nothing as a temporary measure.

couldn't agree more, the engine was smoking a month after purchase and Winger Maserati found "nothing wrong" how convenient, if an engine like that is smoking no matter how small then there is a problem that requires immediate attention, it aint gonna get any better, strikes me that the dealer fooked up and didn't want to investigate further to avoid costs, imo you could use fuchs titan 5w/30 race pro R spec engine oil with absolutely no problems as a full fill let alone as a top up, fuchs titan pro r is for high performance highly stressed road/race engines

Winger Maserati say no more.
They took over Auckland Maserati who I worked for and I handed my notice in within the first month.
I could post things but I won't as I'm the better person.

Hey,it's not even a Maserati engine, they stole it from a Jeep Cherokee Laredo. So don't imagine it's some sort of high tech detuned racing jobbie. Rough as guts yank iron but highly reliable & doesn't matter what sort of oil you put in it.

Sounds BS to me. Dealer/manufacturer wriggling to prove a point.

Still annoyed at MrMicks treatment with his Ghibli steering rack.
