Make me see sense

I am erring from my ways like a lost sheep; I’ve been considering upgrading from my QPVGTS to a MC Stradale but my eye has been caught by an Aston martin manual Vantage V12. Anyone else suffered this affliction and followed through or otherwise? I feel bad for even thinking about leaving Maserati

Is it the Mako Blue one? Bloody gorgeous. I’m in love with my V12V, albeit a SportShift, but Mrs Cud thinks it’s silly and has too few seats. Countering with an observation that it’s arguably got one more than necessary is ill-advised. Anyway, it’s a wonderful, wonderful car.

(does that help?)

A few on here have. I looked at a Rapide but was unimpressed by the rear seats and their access so am waiting the short time till I don’t need the rear seat space that brought me to Maserati nearly 20 years ago.

I’m looking at a DB11, they are already banging the door on £100k. In looking to pay £80-85k and they can put my ten year old 70k mile GranTurismo in the skip at the back of the workshop. I am sure that the new Maserati coupe will be interesting but I am expecting them to get greedy with the price and I’m done with buying these sort of cars new.

You sound like you're seeing sense already. Half and hour in the passenger seat of Crud's V12 Vantage in France last year did the final convincing for new that V12 Aston is amazing.

Ha - that is pretty awesome but the colour isn’t for me. Shame. It’s a black one at Cheltenham

Not helping! Doubt Aston Martin have a dedicated forum like this which is as enjoyable

I can see the draw of the Vantage and the V12 is just sublime, my budget will just about stretch to a V8 and if heart rules head that's where I will end up once the Ireland move has settled.

The carbon black one? Someone on PH (shudder!) is looking at that. You. or someone else? Looks very good!

You're right about the forum. Nothing compares to SM (as Sinead failed to observe). For me, this is a Maserati-themed place to chat to my mates. To be honest, AM is crying out for a similar thing. There's a gap in the market for sure. I must persuade @conaero that he needs to broaden his sphere of influence to include a certain historic English-marque. The AM bit of PH is kind of OK, but occasional home to some b3llends that would get drummed out of here pretty quickly.

PS - you'll need to remove the secondary cats and fit a valve switch thingy.

SportsAstonMartin sounds very much like a club for b3llends! I do like the v12 Astons however I'd be looking at a Virage or Vanquish myself, they just look so nice. The Vanquish can be had around £85k and the Virage around £65k. I see the appeal of the Vantage - Adam's car is very nice indeed - however I just love these other two. DBS is nice too but getting on a bit. I don't like the DB11 - just can't get on with those slices in the front wings. I'd probably still have one but not as first choice!

If you're able to push to £95k, i'd be looking at a Fezza California T. It's really very very good indeed. And you have back seats for children with no legs. Handy.

It's an age thing, Athol. I also love the Vanqush, but I'm easily ten years too young for one of them. :) Mind you, have you heard the Vanquish S? Wonderful.

I agree re the Cali T for the money, They've dropped a good £40k since I was looking a year+ ago. Hardly a surprise as they age, but such good value now. Compare the price of a Cali T with a comparable Vanquish without a roof and the Cali's so much cheaper and far more to choose from.

There are a lot of Californias kicking about so this drives the value downwards. That's not a bad thing if you want a great car for "sensible" money. The T is miles better than the original Cali however at £70k for one of them, that's also looking value considering. I'd probably buy a Stradale at 60k, Virage at 70k, Cali30 at 80k, Vanquish at 90k and Cali T at 95k. Or then maybe i'd get sucked in by an amazing finance deal and spend far more.....oh shite.....

That's why I love your man-maths calculator. It's a marvel of engineering. Reminds me of the turbine room in a nuclear power station, just awe-inspiring. If you ever buy a stupid and unjustifiable car (other than the daily and hündwagen) without spending more than is necessary than I'll assume you've decommissioned the thing and sealed it to prevent nuclear leaks. That would be a sad day.

PS - for looks alone, I'd try to justify the extra for a Cali T over the NA. The inside of the NA looks very dated now, and the big ar5e to accommodate the roof is not attractive.

PPS - back on topic shocker, Wheelybin, have a listen to this. It was a damp and slithery day so no full chat but it's a lovely noise:

Aston V12 is a fabulous thing and not many chances left to buy a V12 with a manual gearbox if that is your thing. If you see one that ticks all the boxes I say do it, you can still come here (Adam does like the proverbial bad penny) and you can always jump back in a Maserati later in life should you want to (or own one of each)

Does it not sound so good normally? This is what I enjoy about my QP so would miss the aural aspects
