Been teaching myself to machine polish (with the help of youtube). Pretty happy with the results. Mobile detailer working down the road said was a decent job.

Getting Ceramic coated next week.

I might use my Jag as a practice car.

C

I used a few panels on my XF to test. Surprising how different the paint reacted on each car. The GC paint was much harder than the Jag. Takes some time to play with pads and compound mix to get it looking good.

The GC took way more passes with a heavy compound and pad to get the scratches out.

It is hard work, but quite therapeutic.

Polishing is very satisfying indeed isn't it?
I agree about the Maserati paint being so much harder than many others. That can only be a good thing for paintwork quality.
I'm about to do another few bits of my Focus to buff out some carpark marks before sale... that car takes so much less polishing, although the first pass needs to use a slightly more abrasive compound.
It'll be interesting to see how I get on with my new motor as the manufacturer finish is not as smooth as I think it should be.

Which machine do you have? Been toying with buying a DA polisher for years but yet to take the plunge

I bought the Meguiars one. Definitley not the cheapest though but seems to work. I suspect that results are more down to user expertise than the fancyness of the equipment though!

The cutting pads make a huge difference over the quality of the machine.

I have been considering the DAS6 Pro with the chemical guys hex logic pads

So where do the ones that Maguiars supply fit into the pecking order of cutting pads?

And generally speaking is the method of attachment the same (velco style) with all of these?

So many more variables to maximise...

I got a DAS 6 Pro with Menzerna pads. I have since bought some hex logic type pads from SPTA which work really well and are a sensible price.

Using Menzerna range of compounds and polish, Heavy cut, medium cut, finishing polish. I have a final sealant also but have not used as will be Ceramic coated this week.

I bought from Slims Detailing and I got a package of their own machine (can't remember what it is rebadged), a bag and some pads, but I also bought the Chemical Guys hexlogic pads. I use the Meguires Ultimate compounding and polishing products.
The DA is good for the faster speeds but that it only had throw and doesn't rotate at slower speeds so it doesn't help me wax, which Inow only do by hand. Maybe a higher power one would be more effective in this department.
The compounds are really impressive and the pads are easy to get flat. The hexlogic are also particularly good in concave areas.
I then have a few Dodo Juice products for quick interim polishing after a wash, quick detailing and exhaust polishing. Their stuff is fantastic and also smells yummy. There's a fantastic dark wax I use on my black paintwork. I'm also really tempted to try it on my newly slightly blue light silver paintwork to see if I can enhance the tint.
