now that would seriously peeve me off, its only a phone call and they couldn't even be bothered to do that and especially as you'd booked an appointment with a long journey, I think I would have turned the air blue in the showroom

fecking outrageous!

They had that Spyder most of the Summer at around £28K if memory serves. Recently reduced to clear from stock pre-Winter no doubt. Easy to be wise after the event but given the distance travelled perhaps a refundable deposit would've secured at least a viewing. Even so - their attitude is appalling.

It wasn't as if it was a long standing appointment, I only arranged it over the phone on Tuesday and I told him where I was coming from as we discussed avoiding traffic on the M25.

Can't be bothered with reviews and stuff.

I used to really enjoy shopping for cars but the last three have been real hassle, both dealers and private, it's always as if they're doing you a favour just by letting you through the door.

Home now, time for a cup of tea and a rant on an internet forum

Appalling esp from a higher end dealer. All their cars are SOR I believe.
If I knew you were down my way I'd have suggested your popped across to Giallo. Matthew must be keen to do a deal on that marmite GS Spyder.
Also, if travelling a long way you can always ask if anyone on the forum knows a car or if nearby could give it a once over for you.

I did think about having a look at anything else down there after I walked out but just couldn't be bothered and wanted to get home. I've kind of decided on a budget now and I don't think the yellow GS will come down enough!

Thanks for the offer. I'll know better next time.

I'd had them send me extra pictures and all the history, clutch wear etc last week, I reckon it was looking like a pretty good car although without much recent mileage.

Have you had a chat with Richard Grace? With Autumn around the corner he may know of a Spyder owner looking to sell. He would certainly alert you should what you're looking for become available. At the very least he may well restore your enjoyment of buying cars again - a thoroughly decent chap. There's zero chance of being dicked about by Dicky! Sorry Richard - couldn't resist.

Thanks. I haven't as yet. Ed who sold my TVR for me also recommended Richard and he was kind enough to email me when I joined here too. I will speak to him.

On the plus side I've seen some really nice cars being used on the road today, mainly on the M4, I guess that's where all the bankers live:
Selection of Morgans including an Aero 8
Riley Brooklands
Rolls Royce Silver Cloud (broken down)
Porsche 356c (outside lane doing slightly more than the speed limit and anyone else!)
XK150 DHC
E Type
Healey 3000
Lancia Flaminia Zagato coming off the island on to the dual track after Birdlip looked and sounded gorgeous.

Off to Goodwood Revival?

Ahh! That probably explains it, hadn't thought of that.

We went to the 2nd FoS in the MG and when we got back to the car park next to us was a 250 Testarossa with Modena plates.

Lovely car. A 3200 sold within 24hrs of going live on the web is surely a record even for Mr Grace.
The bologna one took 6mths to shift.
