Looking for a new car

One thing I really don't get is the price of TVR's. The seem pretty expensive in comparison to many others IMHO. I love the cars don't get me wrong but the are just a step up from a kit car really.

A 2000 Chimaera 450 was about £37k new & is now £22k with 36k miles. My 2007 4200 CC in comparison was £75k new & was £25k with 11k miles. I know what one makes a lot more sense.

Bearing in mind Chimaera's are the cheapest modern (ish) TVR & Tuscan, Tamara & T350's are more they have really held their money well in comparison. Don't get me started on Sags...saw one advertised at 95k the other day.....really?

I can understand if you're cashing in on your Tuscan & putting that into something else.

I paid 9750 for my Chimaera 400 but the idea of paying 22k or more is a bit foreign for me.

I love the Tuscan & nearly bought one 2 years ago. However I've seen some at £30k+ that have had one or even two engine rebuilds. I have no issue spending money on motors but I don't see the fun in two engine rebuilds.

The E55K was 10k. It could go on for 500k Mrs I expect without a single engine rebuild.

I think there’s an awful lot of cars that are overvalued now. Air cooled 911s, E-types etc.

Ive unfortunately lost a fair bit on my TVR. I just didn’t get on with it so decided to change.

Agreed, some cars are getting silly now & surely a correction is due. That being said many (myself included) have said the same about house prices for years.

Surprised you've lost on the Tuscan as thought most have appreciated a bit. You not had so long then?

Yes not had it long and had to pay for an engine rebuild too. But I guess if I’d bought a normal car and sold it after less than a year I’d have lost a similar amount so it could be worse.

I had my Tuscan 2 1/2 years, if anything it was too well put together/normal after my Cerbera. Routine servicing and a LCD readout rebuild which I did myself it owed me nothing. Made £1500 so free motoring really :) It did have a prior TVR Power engine rebuild with 100k mile warranty though.

Better to have loved & lost and all that. I loved driving the Tuscan & that Speed Six at full tilt was a fantastic aural experience.

I tend to lose little or nothing on depreciation preferring to spend the cash on the car instead.

good ones of these tend to sell. Still some rear dedicated TVR nuts out there that have to have the best examples. Well done on the sale.

Wow that was a quick sale. Well done and enjoy the search for your Maserati.

Yep, sterling effort by Ed he’d taken a deposit in days of me leaving it with him.

I’ve read all the guides and as much on here as I can. Is there anything that sticks in your minds to be wary of when looking at a Spyder?

Most spyders have worn roofs by now, unless cherished and or low miles.

Check for wear and damage as parts are £££.

Also as they tend to be used less service history can be patchy esp if miles are low.

Thanks

It looks to have been serviced regularly since 2012 but has done very few miles, which is a bit of a worry as there’s bound to be stuff that appears with use.

The Spyder I booked to view today at 1100 at The Ferrari Centre in Kent has sold. They sold it yesterday and didn’t tell me. Waste of a days leave and an 8 hour round trip. Just sitting in the car park there fuming!

now that would seriously peeve me off, its only a phone call and they couldn't even be bothered to do that and especially as you'd booked an appointment with a long journey, I think I would have turned the air blue in the showroom
