Look what Jaguar gave me as a loan car.

I love the look. I love the way the bonnet opens as well.

Not sure I totally am in agreement with myself about the fake exhaust noise.

But I guess it is fine. Haven't driven one though. Though a secondhand one looks good value.

I could never see myself in a Jag before this and and the XE came out. I really think Jag are making all the right moves for it to be a brand sought after by the younger generation rather than being a grandpas car with a pipe and slippers.

Agree, XE and F Type has really changed that Jaguar image. I'm looking forward to the V8 SVR XE that's on the way. It will need to be pretty special though to be better than the Alfa which seems to be king of the performance saloons currently.

As as a used car, Andy, they're amazing value. Let the first owner take a massive depreciation hit and you can get one for an incredible saving. An SVR would be quite something, but not worth a massive premium at these prices. Still, that colour!

A bit of a beast I bet...Lot of pennies though as you say. Only thing I don't like about the SVR is the rear spoiler...it probably needs it but it just spoils that very lovely rear end.

This thread has been bugging me... now I keep noticing F types and the only 400s I've seen have been black... like my GS... and we rarely need 4 seats now the children are fledged, and dual clutch 8 speeds are pretty good... and a new or near new car shouldn't need costly and increasingly difficult to source bits (for a while).. and Swindon isn't far..Man-maths at work. There's a black F Type on the Bristol dealer's forecourt.
Have found myself looking at reviews and the jaguar website. Tuned / valved exhausts shouldn't be an objection - after all the GS has them. Can you hear the s/c whine? I had a supercharged car in the past and liked that noise.
Best not go and take a closer look - and surely one shouldn't be looking elsewhere if there is a Maserati in the garage.

Remember it's an auto 8 speed not dual clutch but that's not a criticism. If I didn't need the 4 seats then I would be off to look at the F Type in a shot.

Struggling with same dilemma, at the £40k mark you can get a nearly new F Type with next to no miles as opposed to an 8 year old GTS with 30k ish miles and needing a clutch!!!

The gear box was a gem...8 speeds and a joy to use. Like the above I have been looking at the classifieds on what's on offer.

If you buy a V6 400 Sport it will cost around 72/75k depending on spec. Now for the same money you could get a used V8....in fact a good V8 from a Jaguar dealer starts on around 55k.

Now there is talk around the V6 being the better balanced car due to the weight of the V8 but after talking to owners and reading a few reviews most say go V8 in the Coupe as you'll regret it if you don't but if it's the convertible go V6 S. I still think the V6 400 Sport is the best looking of all the F Type Coupes though.....I have now driven V8 and the 400 Sport...The V8 is an animal especially in rear wheel drive which can now only be had used as all V8's are now AWD if buying new.

When the V8 was new it was nearly 100k which although a beautiful car with amazing performance it was hard to swallow but at nearly 50% of its new valued used its a cracking buy. But the 400 Sport was a beautifully balanced car that sounded great as well.....The black looks very mean but I would go silver I think as its picks out those dark grey detail better.....It can only be had in silver, black or white...

40k would get you a low miles 340bhp car.....Worth trying to go to around 45k as it gets the 390 S which is the one to have at the price. Most reviews of the 340 has said lovely car, you get those stunning looks but stretch if you can to the S version.

Main dealer in Bristol almost threw me the keys to test drive a few weeks back...was too busy but said I would look again...seems like I am not the only one.

Local dealer here is on the phone twice a week to give me a car for a few days to try.
Salesman's opening pitch when I walked in the door and asked about F type was that Jaguar are doing big discounts and finance deals on the cars. That didn't make me feel good about residuals.
Do like the look of them.

Residuals are terrible! But the cars are nice.

Sitting looking at a car parked outside knowing the value is dropping like a stone in front of my eyes would put me off owning one as thinking driving it , however well it drives, is dropping the value even faster.

I've bought one new jag in my life. Loved it, but hated the depreciation.

As with most cars, I guess a few years old is probably the sweet spot with these.

I was offered a 8500 mile white V6 one last year at £39k, 18 months old; I thought great, that sounds cheap, until I saw they retailed at £39950. The car was £66k or so new. They're lovely, but overpriced, so we all think, that's fine, I'll buy a used one, which will still fall by £15k over 2-3 years.
