Suspension is not some sort of punishment or negative judgement. It is a part of the standard process to make sure that the investigation is done properly, and to make sure the officer involved is not over-stressed, etc. Not madness, but a very sensible approach. The alternate approach would be "Yeah, mate, I know you just shot someone, but that is just routine, and I need you back at work at 8am tomorrow, and try not to worry about what happened today, or about being tracked down and harassed by the press and general nutters in the next few days. Oh, and the inquiry team will be giving you a call soon - try to make time during your normal working day to talk to them."
You can do all of that without suspending them from duty.

As it happens the automatic suspension rules have now been changed as promised (google).

i'm actually thinking the attacker was being tracked/followed by security officers at the time of attack, he was wearing an ankle bracelet tracker, a plain clothes copper just happened to be there to take knife away and arv's turn up and shoot him within 5 minutes

Some good footage of it emerging from all angles the moment he's shot up close makes good viewing. Very proud of the brave guys who were pinning him down and fighting him with fire extinguishers and whatever else they could get their hands on!!!

Authorities knew him, banged up for threatening/planning to blow up the LSE and on tag. Wow a tag can stop a man from carrying a knife. Little known about the Victims it seems.

Very plausible indeed.

who knows how many other prisoners have been radicalised by him in prison and that have been released and/or about to be released, should introduce "chain gangs" for these dangerous animals and keep them in prison for life, the security services clearly cant be tracking them 24/7 for years on end
I have worked this year with a guy who has been to prison twice.
He is an ex Williams F1 guy well documented in cyberspace.
Working long night shifts with him and plenty of time to chat I asked about his experiences.
Who runs the prisons expecting in my mind Kray Twins type of characters white British villains.
Wrong it's the Muslims and a lot in there apparently usually fraud related but clever guys who can manipulate people including cons and the officers.
I was quite shocked to say the least but the whole prison system is a big mess.
Boris needs to start sending them over to Australia again.

totally agree, it seems that prisons is a breeding ground for these people, ironic really, one in and several converted barbaric scum animals come out  hopefully this is a wake up call for the justice system, lock these scum up and throw away the key.

If Oz is so great then why are there so many Aussie barmen in UK?
Kiwis tell the World NZ is the Best place in the universe and most want to go to Australia.
For me I like to have options and now have 3 UK, NZ and France.

just reading the latest, other person killed now named, two beautiful young people brutally murdered by this w4nker, I really do hope BJ implements what he has been saying that the full term sentences will be served with no early release and life means life, the justice system needs to toughen up, cant pu-ssy foot around anymore with these deranged crazies

After today's car-crash interview doubt he'll get the chance!

It's the best of a bad bunch, BJ wont be moving out of number 10 and it's the usual blame game when something like this happens, either way I'm pretty sure things will be tightened up with sentencing

Until the inevitable Inquiry as to the use of un-reasonable force, I fear....

C
I think in that situation if your choices are blown up by bomb or deal with consequences of shooting him after he's dead most would go with the latter, hopefully, everybody I've spoken to thinks the copper did the right thing , whether his superiors agree though... when the last london bridge incident happened I was amazed they had unarmed officers on duty there.
