Lockdown Detailing Thread....

I'm sure that I'm not the only one that is (not so) secretly pleased to be able to use lockdown as an excuse to polish things (ooh eeer!). I haven't had time to properly machine our Macan since I bought it about 6 months ago. I managed to get that sorted yesterday after waiting for various purchases to arrive such as a new Karcher, snow foam etc etc.

I did a full machine cut and polish, paint preparation and then a nice top coat. Nowhere to go but she sure does look nice!

I'll likely be working most of today but if I do get an afternoon break, today's job is to swap the winter wheels off the Fezza and get the diamond cuts ones back on. I'll need to clean and seal them first and take the opportunity to dust off the suspension etc while each wheel is off. My car has been fully undersealed etc so i'm interested to learn how easy, or difficult, it will be to get the light layer of dirt off the components will be.

How's about posting up some of your Covid-19 detailing pics and tips?

Got my 15mm throw DA out for the first time yesterday.
Didn't want to jump in on the Maser, or the BMW, so did my Mitsubishi Pinin for its 20th Birthday present instead!
Results amazing using a simple one stage.
I've probably doubled it's value!
Next job is pulling out a few dings using a hot glue kit, and a few touch ups which look more obvious now.

Very nice, you may have spurred me on.

Car is on trickle, I must take it for a self isolated blast today, is this socially unacceptable?
You do need to get the water off this discs so you would be permitted in my eyes to at least take the car out to clear the brakes of any water.

When I bought the Pinin 18 months ago the plate was already on the car and the seller wasn't interested in keeping it! Why it was on it on the first place I don't know!
Does make me chuckle.
My mate told me the letters stand for Right Big Plonker, or Real Big Penis. At least I can remember it!

Actually, I had some handy child slave labour on hand to help get the process started. I recommend this if you have the means.....

Quite agree, hire them out once they know to keep the correct "social distance" from the car to save lifting loose paint! That'll get the economy rolling again all right ;)

Did my daily drive yesterday. Not as exciting as most cars on here but a 2013 C250 with 93k on the clock. Always comes up lovely...Never had a Mercedes before but I have been very impressed with the quality of this car.....Do love a clean engine bay....

I wouldn't go so far as to calling it detailing, but I did apply a bit of spit and polish to the daily work truck and the Golf. The truck didn't come up too badly for a 12 your old workhorse.683506835268351

They say the devil makes work for idle hands. Clearly not around here. It's the god of beautiful shiny things (I'm sure the Greeks have one) that's keeping us busy.

As the Vantage has already been machine polished and the front PPF'd, my attention has mostly been on washing and waxing. I've been taking it steady. It's not like there's any rush. So far I've made it as far forward as the A-pillars, including under the sills. Anal, maybe, but there's time to do things well. I've been using Autoglym HD wax and a tip from the detailing guy I use (F1 Wax). He said to apply the wax in the usual way, let it dry and then apply it again. Only then polish it off. Seems to work well.

I'm especially pleased with how the roof has come up and very happy that a huge rook splat which did the usual damage to the roof paintwork (even after less than 2 hours) has now completely repaired. All hail the god of self-repairing PPF!

Sorted out the daily hack. Swapped the winters for summers, gave it a wash, and a wax. That will probably be it for a few months! DSC_6961.JPG

That is the cleanest Shogun Pinin I’ve ever seen. It’s just not right.

When I decided I wanted one, it was the 5th one I saw, the others were like a soggy cardboard box underneath. A bit like GT/QP subframes. Even so had to have a new outrigger last MOT.
Love it, proper little 4x4 with low range and locking diff, fully functioning a/c, electric windows, mirrors, sunroof, parking sensors etc. It even had built in sat nav!
One of those vehicles worth more than its actual value.

Not exactly detailing, but I had to get some cars out of the barn so I could sweep the floor. The cars themselves are sufficiently clean for me to lack the motivation to polish them. And anyway, there are beers to be had and sunburn to be caught.

How about a stablemate for the 400?

That SL Merc's a classy choice, Ewan. I've always made a point of drooling over the 60s and 70s SLs, but the 80s models are aging extremely well. You can tell that I know sweet Fanny Adams about the various models.

You're never tempted to ape Harry Metcalfe with Ewan's Garage? Go on, give it a spin!
