He's savage but that laugh is annoying. Expectations are big at McLaren for next year. The team is now set after all the moves, big BAT sponsorship next year with Vype. Hopefully they can break up the Merc, Ferrari, Red Bull automatic top 6 places. Racing Point should be a good bet too next year.

I rather like his laugh...He is a very smiley man which is great to see. I really hope McLaren move up the rankings next year. Its where they should be and great to see the progress this year.

Me too but I find it unlikely with the Renault engine, it's not good enough and I don't think Renault have really got the resources to develop it at pace.

Wow.......Worth every penny imo.

$221 a minute: We’ve broken down Hamilton’s insane Mercedes contract... it’s eye-watering
Lewis Hamilton will earn an impressive £164,835 ($320, 518) every day once he puts pen to paper on a mega £60million-a-season ($116 million) three-year contract with Mercedes.

I know he's hot property but £60m a season for 3 years, he needs this year title to equal Schumacher and then potentially another to go one better but can't see him hanging around after that.

Ferrari obviously are also interested but given the Mercedes seem to have had the measure of them year on year why would he go there. Red Bull is the other option but him and Verstappen would be a nightmare team to manage.

Lewis if that's the deal sign it, reap what you sowed and then put your feet up.

Although it would be quite something to equal Schumacher's record, and even more so to better it, will Hamilton want to stay around for another 3 years? By then he will be 38 years old, and as he's already worth a bob or two racing records may be the only real incentive to continue; Schumacher was 35 when he won his seventh title, so I think it will be seriously hard work for Lewis to rack up more titles with talented youngsters snapping at his heels, and his team mate is no slouch either.

After all the recent palaver over Ferrari I don't think he'd be too enthusiastic about them, and at the moment I see no one else to match Mercedes from a technical and team perspective.

Maybe Lewis could get a 2 year deal, with an extra 1 year option to stay with the team as either a driver or in a technical/management role - depending on the 2020 and 2021 results.

Surely every F1 driver wants to have had at least one season with Ferrari. He could two more with Merc, beat Michael "the cheat" Schumacher's record, and then a golden-goodbye season with Ferrari.

Ferrari F1 is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons, and their performance in recent years hasn't exactly sparkled. A few years ago Hamilton might have switched but he's had a stellar career with Mercedes and there's not enough time for a productive switch to Ferrari, so why bother? It might be a handy notion when finally agreeing the new contract with Mercedes, although I suspect that Hamilton and Toto Wolff already know where it will end up.

If your being offered £60m to drive the best car with a team you already know and can put up with your whining why would you move

When he's sitting with his grandchildren, they'll want to hear that he drove for Ferrari. It's still the magic name behind F1. It's just something he could do as a last hurrah, and living in Modena for a season, with all the Tiffosi cheering for you, is not a bad way to end an F1 driving career.

It might not be the type of car he is familiar with but I would lay money after a few laps, the odd spin here and there he would have got the hang of it and be on the pace. The basic inputs are the same and the feel doesn't change, once they get the feel for waht the car is doing then they can exploit the potential. They all do it, even the also rans in the current races, and they are all very good it's just the likes of Hamilton & Senna in his day just do it a bit better than the others

Agreed a racer is a racer regardless , the only difference from the 60/70/80/and even the 90s was the safety issues , the cars are so safe nowdays which is a good thing but detracts away from the driving by the seat of your pants , I doubt very much there would be many of the modern day racers that would have had the balls to drive the cars and racetracks of the 60/70s , the death rate was extraordinary high, and many a good driver was lost. Ask any of them now would they have refused a place in the team and most would still do exactly the same again ,it's a different kind of adrenalin knowing your life is on the line should you screw up

Why do you think that Dave ?
Because Hamilton has far too much baggage and lots of racial issues!. unlike Michael, who underneath was just a private family man with two kids!
And over the years happened to drive an F1 car better than any else! ;)

Cars are safe-r but still drivers die.
Thankfully it is rare nowadays and not the 1 in 3 during Jackie Stewart's era but the back of your race ticket will always say that motorsports are dangerous.
