With the way prices of the early GT's are going, as long as you can afford a monthly repayment figure of about 50p and a pickled egg, you'll be back in one in no time. Happy days.

I'd like to go back to the classic LM after years of the modern one. More for the cars than anything else.

Being a more family friendly event I'd want to take my girls. We'd then head off on a family holiday in the south of France or something after the race.

Considering the above, I'd look for separate accommodation from any main party that was going.

If you are seeking accommodation, I own an apartment for Holiday let right opposite the legendary Hotel de France in La Chartre Sur Le Loir.

This was the base for Aston, Ford and Porsche from the early 50's to the 70's and is a Mecca for the historic racing enthusiast. You can't get a room there for love nor money during the 24H or Classic, so after years of trying, we bought the Cheval Blanc building on the other side of the square. You have a grandstand view of all the action and can mingle with the racing personalities staying at the hotel. Have a look at our website and be quick if you want to secure your room for 2020!

I would much prefer the Classic Le Mans event but next year would be out for me as I am already committed as far as spending on car related events goes.
I have wanted to go to Historic Monaco Grand Prix for years so, 2020 is the year. It is an event that can be easily sold to partners and family as there is plenty to keep them amused if they get fed up with cars.
Travel is already booked and the rest will be sorted soon.

A group of us, inc WAGS, head down to LMC every year (it pretty much falls on my birthday) and have done so since it started (only missing one due to my son being in hospital). It's an eclectic mix of classics and moderns and taking in the excellent roads en route is part of the fun.

It's a great event and vastly superior to LM24 in every way .... and I will be going down again next year in my TR6.

We stay a few clicks north of LM and travel in and out by taxi.

Even the non petrol head WAGS agree it is a great weekend - recommend to anyone.

Don't know how much of a friends trip you guys are organising or if you're welcoming anyone on the forums, but if the latter, I recently joined and saw this thread. The classic is penciled in my calendar for next year, and would love to get there on a road trip with other Maserati owners and share the weekend experience.

I'd love to do the classic at some point. Maybe next year would be the one to do as the 24 will still be a one car race whilst we wait for the new hypercar class. At the moment I wouldn't be in the position to bring a partner.

You would be welcomed.

I have spoken to our man in France and we hope to get some ideas out after the summer.

@conaero perhaps we should do the classic next year? The rule changes don’t come in until 2021 so 2020 looks a bit quiet as a transition year. The timing is very similar so shouldn’t be too much of an upheaval.

Just an idea?

I don't like the look for the grid for the 24hr next year. Hoping things will get a bit busier for the following season.

From LMP1 SMP have dropped out and rebellion are only running 1 car not 2

LM GTE Ford and BMW have dropped out

First round is in Silverstone at the start of September so it will be evident how little cars are on the grid for that

I wouldn't mind seeing the classic but is there the same competitive racing atmosphere?

Classic is a very different event to 24H. Lots of great old cars racing in groups by age 3 times each during the 24h in short races but on the full 8 mile road circuit.

It lacks the overall competitive atmosphere and the crowds are smaller, older and less manic. Both events are great but very different

May need two groups as I doubt the wifes and girlfriends will appreciate the standard shenanigans that follow the regular 24 events the foum is renowned for.

If you want a proper competitive atmosphere but with historics the Spa Six Hours is brilliant.
