Just found out that Speed Chills who we usually camp with at Le Mans isn’t doing it next year. Apparently they are doing Glastonbury instead! (EDIT: got the wrong end of the stick - there's some random thing about Glastonbury in their excuse). Anyone got any recommendations for on track camping?

Travel Destinations has been suggested but any other views?

We camp in Houx Annexe, secure site, marked pitches and security, easy access to the main circuit and village.

Listen to Matt, forget camping and come glamping. There is a great deal to be said about a warm bed and a hot shower each day.

Matt and Athol are right. Camping's ******* barbaric and there's simply no excuse for it in this day and age.

Barbaric it maybe but for me it is part of the Le Mans draw, it's the being on site close to all the action not just the race, there is great craic to be had. I always feel you lot miss so much by driving in / out everyday but I guess each to their own

There is nothing wrong with camping.
Don’t be put off by those that worship a proper bed and a shower - you get that at home.

Le Mans is 24 hours - allow 2 days travel, 2 days soaking up the atmosphere and anything alcoholic.

That’s 2 pairs of pants, 4 socks and a toothbrush. Easily fits in your pocket so take a motorbike for quick circuit access and enjoy

Maison Blanc - inside the circuit, facilities are shite if non existent, water is a luxury, everybody else smells the same as you.

I’ve only ever camped at Le Mans, so for me it’s part and parcel of the fun.

The Travel Destinations campsite that is on the Porsche Curves (outside of the track, not in the middle) looks great. I’ve never stayed there but we regularly make our way there during the race as it’s a great place to watch some of the night racing....

Thanks for all the kind thoughts - especially those extolling the joys of camping.
It’s part of the trip for us as well and no one has to drive.
We are sorted with camping at Porsche Curves now; secure site, guaranteed pitch, warm showers and most importantly on site bar!

French camp site definition of warm can be quite wide, no queue or front of queue normally OK but as the queue lengthens so the temperature drops They never seem to have a heater with the capacity to keep up with the flow during busy times. Our plan is always to get there early or move shower time to mid afternoon when there are no queues.

The other nugget of advice, don't pile out of your tent first thing desperate for a dump, guaranteed you will hit a line of similar minded blokes all fidgeting their arses trying to keep it in until its their turn.

Ta but we’ve been doing it for a while so are well aware of the issues! It’s a large part of why we don’t go on the public camping.
