Lazy AC compressor

I would like to have cold air in my 3200 this year and decided to check why mine was not working.
Was nearly empty so I pressure tested it, looked ok, charged it with refrigerant but the bloody compressor seems lazy and doesn’t have a lot of suction so I don’t get a lot of cold air.
I’m thinking either the clutch is slipping or the compressor is shot.

Anyone knows of sanden compatible units that are plug and play so I don’t have to shell 1k for the privilege of buying the compressor from Maserati?

Alternatively, some specialist that overhauls these compressors as they are very common.

Can you see the compressor clutch engage. Recently had to replace with used compressor but company in uk supply at spprox 500 pound. My compressor was totally seized after not bring used.

It is a Sanden 1159 you would be looking for. If you google, there is a new one in Germany for 720 euro. But if you dig a little bit deeper into various websites, you may even be able to find a cheaper one. Good luck!

It clicks, and the AC gauges move with the high side rising the pressure and the low side pressure dropping, but not as much as it should and after a minute or so the suction line is close to what it was before the compressor kicked in.

There is a high low pressure swith on top of air dryer. Does the rad fan kick in at anytime? Had a quote to recon mine for about 400 quid

I am not sure if you are measuring a lack of suction on the compressor or just speculating that it must be the fault? I would try the drier. These don't last for ever and have a huge impact on how effective the air conditioning is. They are a royal pain to get at, but well worth it.

I’m measuring with an AC manifold gauge set and the air in the cabin is not getting very cold but your suggestion is a good idea. Could be a blocked drier.
In the mean time I found out the shraeder valves are also leaking slowly and the tool I bought to replace them can’t effectively pull them out … gotta love these cars to spend so much time with these small nags …
