KNOCKING NOISE

Recently noticed a knocking noise on my GranCabrio, 2012. It started to appear after about 10 minutes driving generally at low speed 20 to 30 MPH and on uneven roads mainly. I had trouble identifying the exact location so took car to a local classic car restorer/builder guy I was recommended to visits as my Seriatim specialist I normally use is a long way away and I dint want to spend 2 hours driving to find a loose exhaust fixing or similar.. He identified it as coming from front wheel areas. We had a good look around but not able to replicate the knocking or see any obvious issues ( just as an aside I had recently had a service, upper ball joints replaced and front sub frame treated at Sportsmanlike and he was most complimentary about the work they had done ). Anyway after some head scratching and a conversation with Ash at sportsmanlike my guy had a huh it was related to the anti roll bar, we jacked car up to load the suspension but could not see any problems. He then decided to remove the ball tie rod where it connects to the roll bar. Once the nut was off we could see rust around the hole and also rubbing marks on the face of the nut. Then we saw that the powder coating on the roll bar had broken down around the fixing hole and was cracked and loose. He cleaned up the roll bar faces and refitted the ball tie rod. We checked the other side and it was actually worse than the drivers side, cleaned it up and viola no more knocking.

Sorry for long story but hope this may help someone else who has a hard to identify knocking noise.
