If you use the fob to lock yours do you then have to use the fob to unlock?

I’m sure it doesn’t make a difference in my Dad’s

Yes, mine only has keyless go, you have to used the buttons to lock and unlock.

My old E92 you had to insert the key into a slot before you could use the start button, which at least meant there wasn’t a bunch of keys circulating the cabin while I drove along. The whole keyless thing is lost on me, completely pointless.

I don’t get the point either. I think it’s a fat American thing. Anyone remember hiring a car in the USA 20 years ago when they had the keypad on the door you could use to unlock the car?

Mate of mine has had and X6 last week but two guys came round to view it (was for sale) and took it for a test drive. They missed his driveway turning on the way back to the house and had to conveniently reverse it in. Said they would come back the next day after making a deposit on the car but they actually came back two hours after leaving and drove the car away. Turns out they swapped one of the keys for a dummy key when they were reviewing all the paperwork in the house!!!!! DO NOT LET ANYONE near the V5C or bookpack/keys unless they have made a deposit or you feel they are trustworthy..... Car was spotted on way to Slough (nuff said) an hour after reported missing and has not been seen since by any ANPR. Coming soon to a Gulf State near you or NI stripped for parts.....

I'll be honest with you I hate it too, we have it on the Ghibli, you walk up and just put your hand behind the handle and the doors unlock and to lock you shut the door and press a small button on the handle. The salesman told us to alway keep the keys on you at all times as it was possible to lock the keys in the car!!!! WTF , I do hope he was wrong as I can't see how it is possible not to unlock it if you did lock them in.

Anyone seen the keyfob on a Ghibli, they are massive and seem to be made out of lead, when one is in a Svelte suit doing Chauffeuring the last thing one needs is a large key in a suit pocket or trousers etc.... it's looks like we are pleased to see the Bride!!!

I’ve just bought an Infiniti QX70 for work and it is keyless entry/go and I have concerns about the cars security, don’t fancy getting the key out of a pouch etc so whilst trawling the web came across this device, just waiting for a reply regarding compatibility for my car!

I like most don't see the need for keyless technology. I am quite happy with an old school key. It works. It is harder to nick an old car now than a newer one it seems. You can certainly lock the key in the XJ....I've done it! Luckily I was at home and had the spare handy.

Worst one was locking the SL key in the boot when I was popping the trickle charge on. You can open the boot with the key and it stays open until you close the boot. It doesn't open the two front doors as you haven't unlocked the car. When you close the boot and that noise triggers your brain to realise.....pants....they key is in the boot isn't it! Even worse thing was I ordered a spare 2nd key for the SL 2 years ago.....still haven't got it yet as you can't buy them from Mercedes. On a list until a batch is made. Luckily I could order a new blade from the V5 and a form and got it in a week to be able to open the boot to retrieve the key again!!

I never open the boot only on any car now and will open the car at the same time. Annoying thing is I always pop and keep the key in my jacket or fleece (classy me!) when working in or around the cars for this reason. Lack of attention that time and paid the price :p

You still have to press a button to unlock my Audi and the boot can be unlocked seperately. However, if you leave the key in the boot the car senses it and doesn't lock itself again. I tried it at home with the spare key to hand in the interests of avoiding Rockits problem!

Interesting. I wish they had told Mercedes!
