Key fob battery change

I'd be interested in contributing to the costs of a replacement key for around £ 150. It was a bit of let down to say the least when I got the GS and found the key was such a nasty piece of work! Cheers

I also may have some progress on this I have a guy who runs a fabricating company who should be able to have a go at producing something, I'm going to go simple and give him my old broken key as a template, the idea being to replicate the original key in metal with a lazer etched trident on me side then keep the original buttons.
My thinking is it should look fairly standard but much better quality, also should be easy to retro fit to an existing key.
Only issue I have come across so far is the IR parts as far as I can see it is mounted direct to the plastic part of the key, so need to work out a way of transferring this to a new body.

Any ideas would be appreciated,

I think that your idea sounds excellent. My contact is also plodding along, but with low priority.

What IR parts are you thinking of?

BTW Will be up at Drinks of France Easter Saturday. Are you likely to be going?

In the bottom part of the blue keys they have a small black square which I assume is the transponder.
It is not physically attached to the electronics, however if you take everything out of the case the remote does not work then once sat in the case the remote works, hence my reasoning.
However I do not have any knowledge on the workings of IR so not sure if this is correct, what I would like to know is. The part in question, does it have to be programmed or is it a simple part which could be placed in a new case without any issues?
Trying to make the switching of cases as simple as possible to remove the need to send a key away to be changed over, I'm hoping to be able to achieve a simple kit that can be sent out for simple DIY fitting.

Not sure about Easter Saturday as I will probably be working but may have a look at getting along, could do with a little re-stocking

The assumption was that the black thing (as you mention, transponder) was only for the CODE system, and was a passive RF tag. Can't for the life of me work out why they'd use Infra Red in something, or are you using IR to indicate something different.

When you say that the key no longer works if you take it out of the case, you mean it won't open the door? Or it won't start the car?

Glad you like Neil's wines :)

You will need all the internal bits of the key fob to make it work, IF to open doors, boot and switch alarm off, CODE Tag to mate up with the rolling code system for the immobiliser.

Popes my spare key apart last night, they are so basic, there is an imobilser chip sort of stuck in one corner. These are a big standard flashable chip and identical ones are used in Pug 206 307 Saxo and any number of Euro boxes. Again the PCB is pretty basic configuration and I'm sure would be identical to Alfa or others.

Ah. I'm still unclear as to where the IR piece is coming from?
The signal for the unlock is radio, and the CODE also, no?
