Keeping a UK mobile number in EU

I have my Irish number on nano-sim (Three), and UK number on esim (EE). EE are reintroducing roaming charges but to be honest I hardly use it. However I want to keep it as it's a 'golden number' - any ideas? I don't want any risk of charges due to errors, mine or otherwise.

I suspect just get a cheap PAYG and leave in UK on a spare phone is best but any other idea welcome.

Can you not set a limit of £zero on roaming charges with them or just turn roaming off on the phone?

I think turning roaming off will also turn it off my Irish number. I'll look into the other option, but I just feel I can't trust them now - EE said they would do this but they have (are). I suspect others will follow. Could always transfer it to the ***** one in the QP I suppose, and eject it whilst abroad...

EE said the charges would "support investment into our UK based customer service and leading UK network". However, it will not charge UK customers extra to use their phones in the Republic of Ireland.

I might be! Got a chat next week about some work in all places, Letterkenny Co. Donegal, but the Irish tax is putting me off (again) - 51% net on gross! Think it's about 76% net on gross here but the Irish job is a higher rate.

I want to earn more money, but I don't want to give any of it to the taxman. And what's wrong with that?

I’ll keep my uk number but have roaming turned off and only calls via FaceTime as it’s always connected to a network. I’ve got no mates anyway so hardly ever have to talk.

Watching with interest. My old Italian numbers were always being stopped as not used for a month or two. A pain as tied to tge bank. Just use my UK no on roaming now, less hassle.

Had a brainwave, keep number, divert all calls to wherever you are at the time for me BE or LU, I dunno though whether I'd still get caught with the roaming charge. Thinking about it I think I would....
