Just serviced the car after 4 years of getting it done by a local garage.
The air filter is from new a red foam colour and then the service part is pink foam, the one i took oiut was red!
the spark plugs are from New are V-A-G (volkswagon audi group)and dated on the collar with the production date of the plugs.
I removed these very old looking poorly conditioned plugs and lo and behold they are dated 04/05 (when the car was made, but not registered).
So the key elements of any service have never been done!!! filter and plugs are the ones the car was made with!!!
When i do the oil filter it better not be dated!!!!
any similar experiences with garages just stamping the book for the cash or recommending/advising on items replacement that went on for ages??

Adam most spark plugs are good for 40K miles atleast nowdays , and are not limited to date change , air filters and oils /fluids are subject to deterioration over time , so should be changed , money for old rope just hope they havent charged you for them , begs the question if your checking their work why you dont do it yourself , saves money and you know its getting done properly

No mate ...i have hired a Ninja assasin!!!
But honestly what is the world coming to?
There is no pride in the job any more is there.
I can just imagine the conversation.
"Oh we got that seat in again this year"..."ah just tell him to come back in about 2 hours, park it round back and when he turnes up i`ll say ..Yep all done its waiting around the back...oh yes and the service mechanic said its a very nice car but he had trouble finding where the plugs were at first! ..Titter!"
That will be £145.00 sir."
...Collectivly or individually wankers..
they would be called Castle motors in okehampton Devon

Still think....you should go down the official route, make a formal complaint, am not into giving these franchised garages a 2nd chance........sling the book at them....IMHO!!!!

Get it in the paper....hit them were it hurts......call the rogue trader line....etc.....

wasnt checking persae loz just doing this years service myself.
Warrenty was the reason as it car invalidate if not done according to specifications and lazyness to a degree.
Now its out of warrenty i will,i do brakes and discs anyway.
I did a 2 year mechanics course when i was 17 at Bitterne skillcentre, started by making my own tool kit, spanners and such... and its stood me in good stead and then i did 3 years as an engineer before sadly (as is my nature) becoming bored with it all and turning to building /masonry.
But some items i think would be best left to the more familiar....still even though i say it myself...i know my way around an engine and i am not uncomfortable with working on one.
I still bow to the more knowlegable and understand theat experiance is of great importance so if its been done then i will ask so i dont make rooky mistakes that could have been avoided.
