Judder under braking?

Evening all, the Ghibli has passed her MOT now with no advisories. But there’s still a judder through the steering wheel when braking.

Discs are fine and not warped. She was in storage for a while. Any ideas what it could be causing it?

Assuming you’ve double checked for run out, deposits and corrosion of the discs (not always evident on an mot)

Tyres

Worn control arm bushes

Caliper sliding pins.

Glazed pads. Just had it on the qp. Gone now after some sand papering

Had discs and pads replaced all round in Jan after only 18K miles because of braking judder. They had been skimmed to try and rectify which worked for a while.

Now getting the juddering again, but only when the brakes are hot . Any ideas?

Yes, you bought the wrong discs ;)

But more seriously, I’d be looking at the pistons in your caliper, checking the run out on the discs with a dial gauge and check the surface of your pads for break up or glazing.

Steady on. I know I bought a jack and axle stands and associated gizmos to remove wheels at Christmas but did you think I was ever going to actually use them?

2 year service coming up so to be added to the list as well as the rear parking sensors which are now scizo!

I was working on the assumption that I was writing a list for someone else :p

Still waiting to hear back from the workshop but after your helpful replies my money is on sticking caliper or glazed pads. We will see!

An update and a resolution. Everything seemed to be fine as in pads not glazed, calipers not binding that they could tell (had passed brake test for MOT a few days before). So, the workshop owner took her for a spin. Accelerating on straight empty road and braking hard, several times. The judder got less and less and has now disappeared. Seems it was just lack of use!

Hopefully now we can see the back end of Covid I'll be able to resolve this and use her more, certainly more than the last year and a bit - that's for sure!

That could easily have gone another way,
“Haven’t cured the brakes, sir, but the airbag works perfectly”
