Ex Labour home secretary launching his fifth book while staying at the Savoy and making jokes about how his butler thought it was too ostentatious.

Glad to see he remained in touch with the common man ;)

That's the problem very few are in touch with the common man or woman sadly.

To give credit where it's due: Mick Lynch has taken (I believe) an £80k pay cut (about 50%). Now on the one hand I applaud him. OTOH how the **** can he claim to understand the challenges of 'the working man' other than intellectually?

Listened to him today and he continues to speak well I feel and certainly must be making certain individuals feel uncomfortable.

It's interesting. There was a post on FB that listed all the actual changes in ts+cs. And it's a 'lot' of 'working conditions'

I do struggle getting over the salary. Like Corbyn. Like Starmer and so on

The rumour is that it would have been sorted on Wednesday but someone from government stuck their nose in (despite them saying publicly they weren’t involved) and forced a formal notification of redundancies consultation letter to be sent to the unions, you can imagine how well that went down.

Indeed. My understanding is that 'the government' have denied this absolutely. As an 'exec' I would also rather firmly be against anything that limited my ability to run my company to the best of my ability within the limits of the law.

Network Rail is a public body of central government. NR used to be an independent not for profit company but that changed a few years ago when we were brought fully back into the public purse. So the execs are not running their own company its a part of government. It’s less independent than most parts of the NHS. Despite what they say I can’t imagine senior management would have sent that letter without say so at ministerial level. Everyone got a link to it and it was pretty inflammatory in the middle of a national strike. “We’re formal starting consultation to make a load of you redundant and change your T&Cs”.

Do you have the text of the letter to share? I'm only curious because conflating changes in Ts and Cs with redundancies would be novel.

Thanks. Interesting. Any chance of the whole thing? Again, just curious

I’d have to log on again!

I was actually wrong when you read it and pay attention  It says:

changes to working practices within existing T&Cs……will lead to a reduction in need for staff

Not 100% clear what you meant to type there? However I'd like to see the full context, not for any other reason than to satisfy my curiosity.

To get the whole letter I’d have to log back on to my work computer again. That’s an ****!

I also got it wrong when I said the letter was notification of consultation to change both T&Cs and reduce workforce.

it says working practices will be changed WITHIN existing T&Cs

Sorry, no biggy. Your interpretation is kind of how I read it a more in line with what I would have expected.

Yes, this is what I saw on FB.

Not sure why Mick Lynch is talking more about this on the media. Unless it's not accurate?
