And they all use the same battery pack and you can drop and swap at a battery station

I think Tesla had that idea a few years ago but nobody likes monthly battery rental , might as well have an ICE if you're only doing low miles

Their biggest worry was someone would drive in with a 10 year old battery pack and drive out with a brand new one never to be seen again

Remove charge at home so they have to swap and if all the same the 'BP' could own them and charge for 'fill up.

So tell me, how do you install those things when you don't have any off-street parking?

Synthetic fuel. A few of 'em are at it. Good start.

I saw the thing about Porsche, I think they have a good plan, better than hydrogen by a long way.

Shell GTL is “Gas to Liquid” it’s made from the leftover gas from oil wells, so not synthetic in the “better emissions” way. And it’s diesel. But other than that it’s perfect. We are emissions testing it in a couple of weeks.

DC may work now with a tiny number of electrical cars... but once they grow to c >30% the real fun will start.

I use Tesco and thier POD points as well as my local farm shop... but each have just 2 points each and far too often non electrical cars are in the bays.... I have a 8m cable, but some times even that's not long enough to span the extra gap... Good job it's a hybrid I say.

Synthetic fuel is a side show. Its still burning carbon based fuel and it will produce CO2 and NOX and all that and ultimately will have to go. Its a stop gap and they are assuming that during an energy transition from carbon to alternative fuels it there will be a market for a slightly cleaner fuel.
I have a BMW i3 which has a 13 amp plug charger and I keep a long extension lead with me!! but to be honest I have never needed to run it across a street. I have been able to plug it into wherever I am staying including hotel rooms, and it has not been a problem. While my old i3 has a fairly short range it is very efficient with its use of energy and is only 1400kg including the batteries, so this is light and efficient, the Teslas are faster and have longer range but use more energy to get from A-B because of the weight.

well in the village of tisbury they just trail them a cross the pavement

you don't
Well, A lady down the road has just ordered a new lecy Fiat 500, theses no off street parking...
Rugby Borough Council told her there's no wires across the pavement unless she can prove she has the appropriate public liability insurance!

She’ll be fine. All she has to do is go and find a public fast charger and it will be at 80% in 24 mins. And it’ll cost a tenner. And it will probably be miles away.

Thinking about it, probably won’t be ok :D

I am thinking people will try having swing out arms that hold the cable above the pavement, like some old petrol stations used to have.

My daughter was looking at electric cars but does not have off street or workplace charging, it’s would have been a nightmare.

Perhaps an extra long cable run along the road might help her, say a 2km extension lead.....;)

A client of mine is building a sizeable PV array next to Porsche's place, which will be used to generate green hydrogen. He wouldn't tell me who he was building it for, (obviously) but just said for one of the neighbours!
Porsche are the only neighbour!
