I watched yet another re-run of TG this pm. I have to admit car programmes are really the only re-runs I ever watch.

I enjoy JC and his mad hatter antics........almost to the last.

Just occasionally, Jeremys mask slips and a wry smile creases his now well lived in face and his true petrolhead enthusiasm shines through.

Once was for the latest Ford GT, that he fell out of love with, the other featured in an episode about 6/7 yrs old.

He told the story of passing the show rooms of Chelsea cars in Wandsworth and really struggling to stop himself going in. Eventually he knew he had to because one of his fav cars ever was lined up for sale, that is the Mercedes convertibles of the late 60s era. Specifically the 280SL version -

He did a piece on one and waxed lyrical for some time, it did indeed appear to be a fine car.

Are there other classics ( within a reasonable price bracket) that members admire from afar, and just how near has that dream come to being realised........?

I was in Mortlake this weekend. I always head over for a leer at Classic Chrome's place.

These would be in my garage by now, had I won the Euro millions.

1957 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL

1975 Alfa Romeo 1600 GT Junior

1958 Jaguar XK150 S DHC

I'm unable to link to the cars directly. Here's the main website.

My O/H is getting onto old Alfas. So, hopefully, there'll be a classic in the stable sooner rather than later! She's be with me at Silverstone for the CLassic this coming weekend. I may "accidentally" manouvre her toward the Alfa and Lancia stands.

My bro used to have an excellent example Frank , a gorgeous metallic red cream leather 280 sl , he cherished it and lavished untold funds keeping it tip top , unfortunately he wrote it off rushing down south from up north, to make my stag do in time some 30 years ago , bless him he still arrived a little late and never told me untill the following day , think that shattered him as a petrolhead , ever since he's had a series of mundane family cars

E-Type is the most obvious classic I lust after. S1 3.8 flat floored roadster please in Old English White with oxblood leather;

Though an XK120/140/150 roadster would be fine, as would a Suffolk C/D-Type or a Racing Green XKSS. One day :)

When you are ready Lewis, head down to JD Classics...less than 2 miles from where I live, they had an open day on Sunday...some fantastic metal in there :D
Treat you to lunch at my place or one of the pubs around here !!
