Nice, well balanced review - I wish had then jumped straight into an MC-V and compared (especially) the steering.

'Exceptionally well damped' raised an eyebrow here.

Young James is a different body type to you and me, John. He may experience these things in quite different ways.

I think my eyebrow has just disappeared around the back of my head.
Spoke to him a couple of times, nice chap. I imagine he would be interested in doing something on the MCV, if you’d be interested…

Having driven a number of 4200s and GS I can only reflect that the gearbox is hugely reliant on the clutch set up; and that a new clutch makes it night and day.

I would be interested to learn how old the clutches have been in the ones he has tried.

Would agree @safrane I had my gearbox/clutch set up by Maranello Egham, it it drove obviously better than others.

As for JayEmm, nice guy, but Adam makes a good point. JayEmm couldn't actually properly test the Gallardo as the seat didn't fit him, or, he didn't fit in the seat - depending on your perspective.

To be fair the first time I drove the @hashluck MCV I was eight stone heavier and not so much sat in it, as wearing it.

After kicking myself for not submitting my QP for review I jumped at the opportunity with the GS and met up with James in September - I enjoyed the experience immensely having never ever been remotely associated with anything on YouTube before. James is a friendly chap and I enjoyed talking all things automotive post-filming, and hoped for a fair and balanced review which does seem to be the case here. I made sure to give it the beans for the 'drive-bys' for extra points :)

I also admit to smirking when I heard the well-damped comment... incidentally at the time of filming one of the rear springs was on its last legs, and we changed those, rear track control arms and bushes on her latest visit to AV last month. Here's a pic of him about to drive off after setting up the car mounted cameras:

I actually dropped him a note to offer my GS up for review a few weeks ago as he was clearly missing this variant from his reviews! Good to see this has now been properly fixed (cracking car Makeshift!)

Agree with others comments on the damping, but I still think that there is too much hate for F1 box though. I have only ever spent about 30 seconds in auto in mine, and I am now running a brand new clutch which I'm sure helps. Maybe I need to give auto a try but I never see the need to for any kind of driving. OK, so Its no match for the modern stuff but its hands down better than the sport shift of similar vintage in my V8 Vantage. Would be a real shame if people swerve these cars based on the F1 box comments alone. Honestly cant fault mine when used as intended.

Makeshift, that glorious sound gets a hole lot more glorious with an X pipe and Larini rear boxes installed. Set on eBay right now as it happens........and it is nearly Christmas......... you know its the right thing to do :)

(ad is nothing to do with me by the way!)

After our chat last week on Linkedin, I thought it was a bit of a coincidence that the he said that the owner was called Dan and that you also had a QP............Nice one!
