Hi I’m thinking of upgrading to a Ferrari or Lamborghini soon but I’m wondering are they worth double the money of my granturismo

Ha ha Ewan!!

So true....

So many permutations and variables,,, yes and no are both correct....

Now an Orange Periscopa,,, the only answer is yes....

Yes - If you want more power, performance or attention.

No - If you want better sound or comfort

It's an itch I have scratched twice purely as I'm a petrol head and an enthusiast with over 40 years on the tools as a professional mechanic.
456 GTA first as at the time V12 Bargain.
360 Modena F1 with quite a few CS add ons for me a Fantastic car.

I thought it was worth it. But as Ewan and others say it’s definitely a yes and no. Maserati’s are ridiculous value for money for their looks, comfort and sound. Attention depends on the colour combination , type of car and how and where you drive it. I am sure forum members from all over the world are on here- with every single permutation of italian car collections possible- and would be really intesting to hear their thoughts.
I have been really disappointed with my Lamborghini experiences compared to Ferrari personally. I can’t think of one reason to get one although I really want to!

Ferrari - yes certainly an itch I would like to scratch one day but Lambos just don't do it for me, I see them as just too shouty look at me.

Maserati is currently my first supercar. I think Lamborghini or Ferrari is the next natural upgrade. If your in the position its worth it to experience the next level. I've driven a Lamborghini Huracan Performante Spyder and its a completely different experience.

Whilst I hankered after a Countach like everyone of my age, I preferred the GT/Sporting Exec type car, hence I started looking at the Espada, the QP's, Ferrari 400 series, AM Rapide et al.

I do ok, earn more than most (though not probably those on here!) but I have a limit on the value of a car to me. My QP5 fills that criteria perfectly...

Ferrari driver - Dad let him borrow it for the evening

Lamborghini driver - Probably a kit car/replicar, registered as a Renault....

Maserati - It is what it is, designed for the more portly gentleman/fat bàstard, not showy but can be....

I'm not in the market for a Lamborghini and not likely to be, but I am rather taken by this (and always wanted one) rather than the current breed:
Prices for Espadas have gone up somewhat in the last few years, and are clearly not such good value as Maseratis. Nice though.

Or alternatively there's a few Diablos about...….

I think yes - they are both easily worth double, and in many case 3,4, or even 5+ times the price of your Granturismo...

The problem for me is that the Ferrari I would want is a lot more than twice the price of my Maserati, and like others on here I find Lamborghini’s a bit too brash and showy. However, each to their own.

Only my 2p - but I would reframe the question not in terms of is the Ferrari worth 2x or more your granturismo, but is it worth the current asking price depending the model you’re talking about.
And more specifically I think you need to look at the cost of ownership, where depreciation will be fairly minimal based on the typo you buy, especially given where the market is at.

is well sorted F430 worth £65-70k - I say yes given it’s low cost of ownership. A new 812 at £300k+ ? Clearly not as you’re looking at £100-120k depreciation over 3/4years...

lambo? I really can’t tell as I am not a lambo guy nor am I familiar with their value/cost of ownership.

I could possibly stretch to a 458 or huracan but don’t like to buy bottom of market value so probably will go for a F430 360 355 or gallardo maybe a lp560

I am probably different to most here as I had a Lambo (Diablo) on the wall growing up. I had an early F430 initially and my experience wasn’t great but I love the LP560 manual. It’s much better build quality and faster :). It gets a lot more attention than the GTS but so far always positive.
Huracan Performante is the one I would go for if I wanted to change.

How’s Lambo in terms of depreciation? How do you think a performante bought for £175k today will fare in 3years?
Wouldn’t mind owning one, but my wife refuses to dye her hair blond and get silicone implants
