iPods, tyres, keys and a NIT????

After a month of ownership, I think I have managed to find my way around the car (03 4200) and have even mastered silky and consistent camboicorsa gearshifts! I was really unsure about this gearbox during my first drive but I now think it's great.

A couple of questions.

1) Without wanting to open a can of worms, is there any broad consensus on tyres? I will have a requirement for a set very soon at this rate and as the Maserati is noticably heavier than my previous cars, what I had previously considered to be ideal tyres for the job may be somewhat irrelevant in this instance.

2) I only got one key with the car. Do I need to go to a main dealer with all the usual bits and pieces to get a new one or will the indies be able to help whilst it's in for servicing? Any ideas on cost though? Somehow I expect it to be horrendous.

I absolutely adore everything about this car, with the exception of the god awful audio/sat nav/aircon NIT thing. What were they thinking? I appreciate that the car is now 10 years old but it hardly screams quality, has dated badly and is far from being futureproof or easily upgradeable. I believe from reading posts in this forum that it is central to many functions and as such cannot just be ripped out and replaced with something reasonable so I decided to make the best of a bad situation.

I ordered a kit from the US on ebay which piggy backs onto the NIT/CD/SatNav drive between the front seats so I can now play music and charge my iPhone and iPad. It arrived within 5 days and for 65 quid, I'm pleased with the result. It took about 30 minutes to fit as I had to remove the centre console due to the plug I needed access to being on the bottom of the NIT :(

It's is neat enough as I can stow my device in the centre console. Maybe I'm just easily impressed.

Tyre recommendations from Germany: Michelin Pilot (Super) Sport Extraload 97Y, Michelin Pilot (Super) Sport Extraload 97Y, Pirelli Zero
Avoid: Dunlop, Toyo, Conti
(I bought my 4200 in Italy with Toyo tyres. A nightmare. I don't dare to drive faster than 200km/h.)

The iPod solution looks great. Call Marios at Autoshield and he'll sort a spare key, they're about £250. Many forum chaps recommend Falken 453's; far cheaper than the michelins. Looks like a lovely car, enjoy the Maserati experience.

Dicky is right about the Falkens. They work.
As for the key, what colour is yours? Black (early) ones are cheaper (I paid £90 for mine). And indie with an SD3 can code it on (cost me £60) but only a dealer can supply, I understand.

Rossyl - I found the audio thing here

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/110758173868?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

after reading good things about the guy on maseratilife.

kehd - I was a Toyo fan but have had bad experiences with them on a Mitsubishi Evo when it felt like the sidewalls were not stiff enough to cope with the available grip, which has scared me away from them. I suppose Michelin and Pirelli are the premium options, but at premium prices, which is fair enough.

Dickygrace - Had never considered Falkens but I will now.

CatmanV2 - My key is blue with grey buttons but my car is only an 03.

Thanks again for the info guys.

Ahh, that's the more expensive one then. As Dicky says, IRO £250 plus coding.
I looked at that adapter, but you have to control from the iPod if memory serves. Doesn't appeal to my personal driving style :)
