Interior rattles... Speaker cover

Yup, the dreaded rattle has struck. I'm pretty sure though that it's the speaker cover in the driver's door - at least, if I push it, the rattle stops.

Does the cover just pop off when gently levered with a screwdriver, or are there any nasty surprises I need to know about?

The front does just pop off, you can usually see the lugs that hold it on if you look carefully round the edge.
I had a rattle from that aera and I only managed to stop it by removing the entire door card and tightening up all the screws on the back of the door card that hold the various bits of trim on. Certainly worked well for me as nearly all of the screws were loose!

Yep, and other favourites are the curtain trims, passenger seat when empty, centre of the dash and A and B pillar trims.

Check the cover over the small screw under the door opening handle...that was my issue

Fantastic responses, thank you all very much. I know what I'm doing this weekend then...

Can be just the plastic speaker grill, as the springy lugs that hold it on snap off easily and this makes it hang loose on the door. These can be purchased separately from Eurospares at £15.99 if you break it so don't panic!

Just to add my tuppence, I had an annoying rattle on the passenger side, assumed it was the window channel or something.

It would only ever do it at motorway speeds, so couldn't check it on the driveway, although I had the OH pushing and tweaking to see if it would stop with a bang in a certain place.

I recently replaced both mirror rubber gaskets as they'd started to go on the corners, and found a loose speaker securing screw behind the speaker cover. Once replaced and tightened, problem is solved.

A similar one on the Spyder was a rattle behind the headrest. I assumed it was something in the roof mechanism, so didn't even try to solve it. Turns out, it was a screw that holds on the plastic/leather cover on the front part of the roof cover. Tightened and job done.

Basically, if you've got a rattle, don't expect the worst! It appears although they put a bit of blue thread lock on the screws, it's a bit ineffective. Looking for the obvious (loose door trim screws/speaker screws/etc.) will solve a large majority of annoying rattles!

I have the same problem. Took the speaker out and hooked it up to my stereo thinking it had blown. Played fine so put it all back together and the rattle had gone. Its come back again so gonna have a go at removing the door card.
