Looks really promising when you put the clip back make sure it is has good amount of sealer around it and also in the centre where the screw goes in.

Well done

Thanks for your help Rex

I’m going to ring Maserati tomorrow and get a new clip as it’s a bit trashed. Was going to seal it as you suggested.

Also going to get the long seal that goes on the plastic scuttle trim as it’s about an inch short that side and a new on will keep more water away.

Looking at the punched hole for the clip you would have though it would have been better if the long side of the clip run parallel with the windscreen so the hole was higher than the level of any water., easy said with hindsight

Water leaks are sole destroying to find, my best mate run a approved Porsche repairers and he always said that you could spend a fortune in labour finding them as water has a habit of finding its way in via the most obscure places.

Anyway lets hope this is this one cured and that you can start to enjoy the car.

Or even better no hole

Anyway. Italy is apparently closed from last week until the second week in Jan. No wonder Maserati is up the creek.

Looks like it’ll be German transport this Christmas.

The European's love there two week festive holidays, even the Germans
Masser are up the creek unlike the old days, as they make new stuff nowadays that nobody wants to buy... JLR are in the same situation laying off thousands!

Hope the water leak sorts its self

The problem is the longer it is off the road the more likely it is I’ll sell it. It’s the reason I didn’t have another Alpina, the weird contractual arrangement between Alpina and Sytners meant that Alpina parts supply was a right pain. Doesn’t exist on the continent and you can’t speak to Alpina direct because of the contract in the U.K.

I’m also tired of working on cars, I don’t enjoy it anymore. In fact I’m not even sure I enjoy cars either.

Don't feel that way or you will end up wearing Lycra and riding a bike.
My fun has taken a different route not owning a Maserati anymore but having Great Fun with my little Renault 4 here in France :)

Did not know that, thank you... have been considering an Alpina for the wife and Sytner are not the easiest to work with

Fingers crossed you found the cause of the leak!

They are brilliant cars, way more than the sum of their parts and if I lived on the continent I’d have one in a heartbeat. Most of the bits are BMW but when you need an Alpina but it’s weeks wait and a 50-100% mark up.

I’d been going to the same BMW garage for 19 years then Sytner took over, I had one service and have never been back.

I’ve been thinking about this and it doesn’t make sense to me that the clip would be expected to be water tight.

So I’ve looked at the other side and it has a drain, where the wire is. BBC0FD70-5363-4958-AE19-A2E6730589CE.jpeg

The other side is all sealed.

Going to dig out some of the sealant and see what I can find.

Interior is soaked again though so seats out again. Chuffing car.

Hi

I changed the pollen filter on my 3200 at the weekend so I had a chance to look at the area beneath the plastic cover. On the nearside on mine there is a drainage hole about 25 mm above the plastic clip which drains into the bulkhead as does the area around the plastic clip. The photo you have posted would indicate that someone as used a tin of sealer to try to cure a leak and now any water that from these channels ends up behind the sealer. I would imagine that you are going to have to remove all the additional sealer from around this area and start again.

Hope this helps, I am sure you will get there in the end and it will be worth it

Regards

Hi Rex

I’ve already cut a lot of the sealant out, am then going to properly seal where all the panels join with seal sealer. Just waiting for it to dry in the garage.

Has the area on yours been completely sealed off flush with the bulkhead or is it just open to the elements? Just deciding whether to put a wall of sealant there with a drain hole or leave it open.

Not sure exactly what you mean but if l put a small screwdriver through the drainage hole and clip hole they are clearly visible and in front of the bulkhead.l did take some photo's but I didn't check them at the time and they are not very clear.

Wasn’t sure how to word the question.

On mine there is a wall of sealer that basically enclosed the area where wing, bulkhead, a pillar meet so no water can escape from the clip or drain hole. Has yours got any sealer here beyond what you’d expect to cover any seams?

Hope that’s clearer.

Panels have a black coating but seams are visable and sealed but not excessively. Certainly no wall of sealer. Water can run through hole above clip and through clip if needed onto bulkhead where l presume it builds up and goes through the multiple of holes on the flat bulkhead panel to drain away.

Thanks Rex.

I’ll remove all the sealer and do it all properly.

What do we reckon, is the black paint matt or satin?

Matt same as on inner wings, they must seal seams and then spray Matt coating.
