Insurance cover and quotes

Can anyone recommend an insurer here in Oz other than Shannons? I am starting to tire of their annual practice of continually devaluing the car, despite increasing the premiums.

At a time when

a) just about every car under the sun, but Maserati as well have all appreciated in value and
b) with the world's longest lockdown in Melbourne, the risk of theft or damage has been greatly reduced

I'm not really fond of having to call them up each time and argue that the valuation of the vehicle should be reappraised (to which they then suggest the premium should go up).

For reference, I am paying $2050 per annum, with a market valuation of $61K for my 55K klms, Australian delivered GS Spyder. I believe the market value to be closer to $75K, for which Shannons will argue a premium closer to $2500.

Any recommendations anyone?

I suppose it's a consequence of the fact that mechanics & anyone else who works on a Maserati charges 10x the usual rate.

I sustained damaged bodywork on mine, was quoted $60k. to repair. I found another repairer who was an absolute artist in metal & paid about $6k. Otherwise I do my own maintenance & save a motzah. Maseratis are no more difficult to work on than other marques. I can't recommend anyone in Melb. who charges a fair rate, just that some are more outrageous than others. As for insurance I reckon you are being scammed big time. Shop until you drop for a fair premium, but bear in mind that Shannons quotes are just taken off pop-up menus by people who wouldn't know one end of a car from the other. If you can prove you are a car nut belonging to a club & compete in motorsport you can usually get a good quote because they fancy themselves as the friend of car nuts.

That Shannon’s price makes no sense to me given mkt value. Are you on an unlimited KM’s policy? I pay about that for a GTS valued over $170k on limited KM’s per annum. I did hunt around a few others last time (enthusiast and 3 others) but didn’t get offers much lower <5% difference. Maybe due to scale of repair costs that $2k is the Maserati floor these days.

My Shannons price is $1008 for a 2006 GS, limited use. Their value at this time is $47760 down $2880 from last year. Its around 70Km. they are not in it to be your friend. I had to have a stiff conversation to get this premium 5 years ago. I live in the country which will make the premium cheaper. All the best

Ive got everything covered with Shannons. Cars ,bikes, tractors ,house etc. Im too old to waste my time trying to find cheaper. Ive had one claim for a windscreen for the 4200 which was sorted out very quickly .For me thats more important than maybe saving a dollar . Just my thoughts.

You are being ripped off by them.
My GS with 180,000 km is valued at $59,999 for a $1,195.49 annual premium and I've had a couple of claims in recent years - 1 a dead kangaroo run over at 110kmh and later a tall gutter a 5 kmh. Yes I ring them up each year and mention the concours wins/places to get the value increased.

Give Archer Insurance Corp a call 03 8560 1555 - 202/24 Cook St, Port Melbourne.
They were major sponsors of Auto Italia one year, if I recall.
I can't speak to their charges, but for supporting the cause they deserve a break.

Well, I've had the first chat with them and not much luck. Whilst they've bumped the valuation up to 71k which is a start, but still a fair few thousand under probable market value...they remain unmoved on the premium, down to 1900 only. Their rationale is this is due to postcode...2000 dollars at postcode 3002, and 1900 at postcode 3136. Apparently being in a rural area takes an enormous chunk off the premium...
