I am not speaking about being exploitative. Nor am I saying that someone should game the system. I would similarly not need or want a rental because I have four vehicles.

Unless it's my truck. In which case, the livestock aren't going to care who was at fault in which accident. They are going to care if they don't have feed.

Or if someone needs a van to earn their livelihood...offering them a Honda Civic isn't helpful. That's where the "like for like" comment came from. I am not suggesting that anyone needs a Lambo rental.

I appreciate the opportunity to clarify my position.

Plus, Ford Tauri are awful.
I didn't need it either but the 'appointed by my insurer' accident management company were very pushy

I had them on the phone twice pushing their hire car, even after I'd refused it they sent the paperwork, that's when I found out they were charging £220 a day

It's a massive scam in the UK, they lease cars then shaft the other insurance companies by charging exorbitant daily rentals

I got hit again in 2019, rammed from behind, they admitted liability, it turned out we were both insured with the same company, no £220 a day hire cars offered then, in fact I wasn't offered a car at all

Thanks everyone for your comments ,I think I'm going to choose a Mercedes approved shop, will feel more confident of a good job or more chance of it being put right if I wasn't happy with it! The car is a lease car and if its not right I'll be paying for it when they come to collect at full term.
Dont take the car away or have it delivered until the car is inspected and your assured 100 percent that everything is hunky dory , Copart is full of cars ...some high end that have had non agreed repair disputes .................which is one of the reasons why some cars look as if nothing much is wrong with them

As aside point im hearing generally that more and more people seem to be quite happy with Insurance pay outs after there cars have been total loss and the speed with how it was dealt with , where as that used to be a right performance wrangle

We had a similar experience last year. Damaged by a third party. Insurers wanted us to use their repairer.

The repair took 12 weeks in total, it went back 3 times and was never the same when we had it back.

After getting it back it had been back and forth to Land Rover to have many items replaced on the same corner, which the repairers seemingly hadn't noticed.

Drive shaft. Lower arm. Shock. Hub.

We part exchanged the car 3 weeks ago as we had enough - it wasn't the same after :(

Just been informed that Ceramic Coating should mentioned when taking out car insurance. They don't ask about it but if you've been involved in an accident and it's on the quote they will challenge it on the basis that they weren't informed about it.

It could be claimed as an uninsured loss though. Insurance companies really do make it up as they go along.

I'm looking for new insurance at the moment. Not finding many that are willing to quote and are competitive. Having an agreed value options makes it even harder. When specifying whether or not I've made any modifications I put down exhaust (unmuffled x-pipe) and try and find somehere to include the Formula Dynamics Drive By Wire enhancement (FD DBW) which invariably they do not have a suitable bucket for this that I can see. So I end up putting "Other" and then when i finally get to the end, I get "Sorry we can't quote - try calling us..."

I know you get what you pay for, and unfortunately the mass market insurers are now a bit more wise to our cars and are not quoting on the comparison websites. I only got 3 quotes despite having no points etc...

I would only use a bodyshop I was happy with and I know some will argue, but I would simply say it goes to Mercedes (or where ever you decide) and if thy are not content hand it over to a claims company along with a like for like curtesy car.

Poor repairs, even those that look good today, will tarnish over time and knock money off your car.

You are being inconvenienced buy the fault of another party... play the nice guy and they will pull your pants down and spank your a r s e.
Absolutely spot on Peter

Before selecting my insurer I check if my local preferred bodyshop is on their approved list.

Chartwell in Derby. Very very good- approved by Porsche Ferrari Aston Lambo etc
No comparison site insurer will list Chartwell or other Porsche-approved bodyshop. That's why I insure the Porsche and the Maser with Locktons or a specialist insurer that allows me to use a manufacturer-approved bodyshop.
Volume insurers on comparison sites will use volume body shops that usually give good warranties on the repairs.

Just had my renewal quote from 'cherished' part of Aplan, Agreed value, and cheaper than all the comparison sites, for a much better level of cover.

I am a big fan of APlan, have all #4 of my cars with them and my wife’s.
You speak to real people who do all the hard work for you and if you do have a claim, even a broken screen, they do the accident management side as well.

I may need to get them to quote next time around they were in the ££££ end of things last time I spoke to them.

My Locktons policy has been very useful with the driving other cars fully comp and not just third party cover.

Chartwell were on Aviva’s approved list when someone dinged my 997 a few years ago.

Was the Aviva policy through Locktons who have a specially negotiated policy underwritten by Aviva called the Aviva Private Client Policy - not accessible by individuals or brokers on comparison sites. I'd be surprised if an open market Aviva policy available to the masses allowed manufacturer-approved bodyshops to be used.

My own Locktons policies are Aviva as underwriters and these specialist policies give me complete freedom to use manufacturer- approved bodyshops for bodywork as well as glass.

No - just a regular multi car policy.
It may have been because the other party admitted liability that Aviva didn’t care which bodyshop was used, although on renewal I do always check if Chartwell are on the approved list
