Infuriating slow drivers!!

Am I being paranoid, but to me it seems there is an ever increasing number of motorists travelling unusually or ridiculously slowly for the conditions, usually typified by the 20-25 in a 30 for example but for no other reasons that they don't give a **** who their holding up, and perhaps are incapable of driving safely closer to the correct limit. As in the driver in the van in front of me this evening, who added to the situation with the usual 'display of anger' behaviour at my attempt to pass him.
If you want to drive slowly fine, but if it's me I always do my best to let faster traffic get past.
Dangerously fast driving is always to be condemned, but it now seems we have to contend with the dangerously slow drivers who end up causing accidents due to the infuriation of those stuck behind!!
After just such an episode earlier I felt the need to 'put finger to keyboard' so apologies for what may be a rant!! Anyone who wants to comment I would be grateful to know if it's just me noticing this phenomenon.

Not just you Keith!

My pet hate is drivers who seem to coast along at well below the speed limit...an example is when you’re coasting along behind someone doing 40-45 in a 60 or 30 in a 40.

I wouldn’t say I’m too impatient but just wish that certain others could be more observant of speed limits as like you say, going too slow is dangerous in other ways.

People driving below the limit are doing their duty to provide targets to overtake. Don’t mock them they provide a valuable service.

That said the numpty in the Disco taxi doing 20 in a 30 who proceeded to accelerate as I went past, gestured, sounded his horn, and tailgated me for a couple of miles was an a***e

I would agree with all this, i had to get to other site, have meetings but whats the rush... time management and enjoy the drive

maybe we started to get use to the empty roads, now back to slow traffic and jams...

that Disco taxi driver was an a***e, if someone is in a rush or faster, I just let them pass as I would expect when I'm passing you at a chilled speed :auto178:

People who clearly don’t know the posted speed and panic brake for speed cameras when they are already well under! Classic is the A12 at Rise Park westbound, posted 50 so many panic brake to 40 or even 30 Aaagh!!!

I was behind someone in town yesterday. They were doing 10mph in a 20 zone and then stayed at that in a 30. I know it’s not a target and I wasn’t in a hurry but it actually felt more dangerous.

Yep agree. Although I do enjoy the excuse for dropping a few gears in the masser and screaming past :D

Also, worse are the constant speed drivers. So dangerous.
We have a lot of national speed limit A and B roads that go through villages and drop to 30 or 40.
They do 45 in the 60 and make it hard for you to overtake...... And continue to do 45 in the 30 limit!

Had that yesterday. Crawled over the speed humps in a shogun! And finally got back up to 30 after and stayed there through a 40 and into 50. I toasted them as soon as I could.

And often in a Honda Jazz or a learner driver with their parents.............

I think it is virus-related. Many people not have not been driving much for 3 months, and are generally feeling a bit dopey, so are pootling along. Meanwhile delivery van drivers have been used to empty roads and are still driving like maniacs!

Oh man have you hit the nail on the head! I face this every piggin day. Ball bags doing 45 everywhere even in a 20. Just ridiculous. One day I suspect I’ll have a major ‘Falling Down’ moment and just punt the f**kers off the road! ....and relax

I just want to be clear that not all forum members with the initials Mark C endorse doing 45 in a 20! :p

It’s definitely getting worse. I think people have been conditioned/ beaten down into driving far too slowly everywhere. Where I am there are loads of 30mph cameras interspersed with 40mph zones. There are tons of 40mph signs but pretty much no one bothers to do more than 30 in them. Drives me nuts because it’s just as the road opens up about 4 miles out of the city. Used to be a 50 zone anorl.
Then we have 20mph zones.... don’t even get me started on them. Appearing everywhere. Worst thing is people accept them, and then just drive at 20 everywhere ‘just in case’. Well I don’t really find it possible to drive at 20mph anywhere - except where they’ve put speed bumps, that make my mini bottom out ... I know a stretch of 2 miles covered in speed bumps the whole way...
W@nkers.
I’m sure that drivers who’ve learned in the last 10 years drive slower, conditioned into it. Even my mum used to drive at about 40 in 30 zones, back in day, those places are now 20 zones...

Fight the good fight! War on the war on speed
:1408:

Right I’m off for a lie down / pint / heart attack.... Maybe all 3

40 is the new 60

I bought a MX5 last year (**** off) , took it out yesterday on A and B roads to leek in staffordshire , the amount of cars doing 40-45 in a 60 was unbelievable , then there were the the ones doing 45 in a 50 who got really annoyed if you overtake them quickly even if you slow to 50 once you're past.

The thing I find bizarre about 50 limits is seeing a road off them where you could barely get up to 40 safely but the national limit sign is there.

Smart motorways, I went to Birmingham last week, trucks should be banned from lane 3 on the 4 lane sections, 3 line abreast doing 55.9 - 56 - 56.1 effectively making a 4 lane road into a single carriageway for miles

Then we get the 60mph in lane 2-3 drivers who won't move over no matter what , I was in lane 1 doing 70 , woman in a car in lane 3 doing 60 so I did a 4 lane overtake then back to lane 1 , more to make a point more than anything , looked in the mirror, no, still deciding 60 in lane 3 is fine

Thats probably because people from Leek have webbed feet and don't know their left from right!

Totally agree on the constant speed driver's - 45mph whether the limit is 20 or 60!

Mind you, have you been on the M40 lately - normally it's a racetrack - now seems even more of one - last week I had the cruise dialled in to 78 (erm) and Radio 4 selected - might as well been standing still! Plenty of ton up drivers, some in most inappropriate machinery !!
