Thanks! As you may appreciate I am gently feeling my way with this new motor. Is the relay in amongst the fuses which I understand are behind panels in the passenger footwell? I'm guessing that the relay in question may well be found in other Italians of the era & not unique to Maserati?

No, it's in the boot above the battery, there is a post I created a few years ago about its placement and making it more accessible. Let me find it!

It's a completely standard automotive relay. There are a couple of versions but once you pull it out, you can nip to your local auto parts supplier, or even Halfords and pick one up for <£10. Just go for one with a higher Amperage capacity if you can find one

That isn't actually totally correct.
If it's a 5 pin (like my original) it's not a regular common relay, see my post above for the compatable BMW abs relay which is the correct 5 pin configuration.

Ahhh, I think that means there are two types:
83692

So yes, make sure you get the right one (although from memory not all the pins were used but it's been a while!)

i went to their open day in the QP. Don’t worry they are keen for business and treated me very well....had a full 90 min tour of their garages with the MD
Heading to Bell Sport & classic now. Nice day to do some car stuff + don't fancy investigating the hydraulic fluid leaking under rear axle. Only a job I will begin once the car lift is installed.

Many thanks, I was aware of Autoshield, I spoke to Mario as it happens as one of the cars I was considering to buy had been serviced by them. Sheffield is nearer for me but not by such a lot, more important to get the right people. The car doesn't need a routine service just yet but I have no evidence that the F1 relay has been replaced in recent times and I understand that is a prudent thing to do. It'll give me a chance to get to know them before I have to have an annual service.
I think this is a good idea. Consider a drive to Marios and introduce yourself in person and pre-book if he can have a quick look at the car.
He and his team are really very good with these cars. I don't take my GranSport anywhere other than to Marios and I don't tinker or have a go at anything - just too scared of creating an even bigger job that costs more to fix (and I can tell you some real examples of people with Porsches who did DIY stuff and made a big job out of what was a small job to start with).

Thanks. As I have another job to be done it might be a plan to have them swop the relay while I watch, have another for the glove box as back up and there for next time it's due for a replacement.

The other job is the driver's side window. I can see that the door card has been off at some stage and the re-assembly less than perfect. The glass has slight play that isn't evident on the passenger side and it's not 100% air tight.

Nice visit to BSC and can report they. are very nice people. Primary business is Ferrari and doing full restorations e.g. 275 "now they are worth 2 million". They also had nice restomod cars.
The meat of the deal was introduction to Atillio who has 20+ years maserati experience preceded by 12 years on Lotus. This man knows problems and how to solve them. My QP will have (hopefully) quick and easy fix for the F1 fluid leak. Will begin discussions on 3200 resurrection. This man knows all about the Achilles heel on these engines. Fascinating.

Carrs of Exeter have lost the Maserati franchise, but are continuing as specialists for pre-2018 cars. Servicing, etc, is carried out by the same technicians in their new Ferrrari workshop. I haven't noticed any difference in the quality of their work.

Lost or handed it back like most, unfortunately... a result of having cars forced on them which in turn they cannot sell at a price point to make it worth while...wonder if Maserat will in turn refuse to sell them parts?

Whilst not specifically Maserati, these guys look after my QP5 and my old 4200 before that. I wouldn’t even consider having such cars if they wernt close by, they really do know their stuff. Howard the owner is a vet 3200 owner and is currently building a 3200 drift car!

Blimey - good to see they're still going. I used them for a good few years when I had my Fiat Bravo and the Alfa 156. Good crew, crazy steep entrance.

..... I sold my 3200 last year to a chap from north Wales. As I am attached to my car I do check in on it on MOT check I noticed that it's been expired for over a year... It could be possible that Howard was the one who purchased my 3200? Not sure!

I've known/used Howard for about 15 years now. He did work on my first Barchetta, brothers Barchetta and my old 156. I always remember that he had a clients 037 Stradale that he was slowly re-building. He told me that this client bought it from a scrapyard that didn't know what it really was, for a steal!
He also had a Montecarlo that he had mechanically restored for another client who then failed to pay for the works, so it just lay there out in the elements rotting away!

Hello all. Thought I would share some recent experiences with some local specialists around Edinburgh. Firstly huge thanks to East Coast Sports Cars in Elphinstone. They have fettled my Gransport by replacing the heater matrix and disassembling the front bumper for a front end respray. They also sorted the blipper keys and the boot lid release.
Also a mention to Alan Gibson Coachtrimmers in Musselburgh who sorted out my sagging leather headlining. Not an easy job but done perfectly!
Finally a mention to Dougie at Paint_tec in Musselburgh who did a great job of the front end refresh. Car looks great!
These guys are old school experts who did a great job at a very reasonable cost.

Good to know about more places round Edinburgh. Another one actually in town is David Philips Autos-he looked after my CC and was super helpful and knowledgeable. Porsches are probably half his business but substantial Ferrari / Maserati experience too.
