The commercial I can understand , claim the vat back and run it as a van but the rest are just pointless , there are better ways to spend 70k
Agreed. At £70k, it’s a no from me. But you can pay less than £50k, buy it through the business, claim the VAT back, etc. And all of a sudden it makes more sense.

Nail on the head there Dicky....As long as you don't drive it on the road. I drive an old one once I never will again. Horrid vehicle unless you are a farmer on the fields.
I bought one from a farmer 10 years ago , a 300tdi 110 high cap pickup

Driving it back from Cambridge I managed one junction on the M6 before hitting the A roads , it was terrifying , candles for headlights, ½ a turn of the steering wheel before anything happened at the wheels , pulling away from a junction was a challenge as it was about 2 seconds after all the slack in the drive-train was taken up before you moved

it was at that point I realised low mileage when it's up to its chassis in cow **** pulling tree stumps out isn't a good thing.

I had a 2006 90 TD5 XS, I loved it but long journeys were tiresome and we had two other 4x4’s so it had to go. It had gone up in value and so was free motoring and I remember it fondly.
The new one has me puzzled. At £70k you won’t go near scratchy hedges, take a punt on whether you’ll get across the river and certainly won’t be hosing down the interior after a muddy day. On that basis, I would think many would play safe and buy a Discovery....... if it has to be a LR that is and they want to get on first name terms with every mechanic and service advisor in the LR dealership.
I’ll be keeping the LandCruiser.

My old man loved the old, original LandRovers and bought an ex demo Series 3 in 1972. We trawled across Europe several times in that f*cking thing and it regularly went t!ts up. Once in france, and again in Turkey, with a knackered fuel pump and once in Yugoslavia with a busted gear lever. Yes I know it’s a bit left field, but he was one step ahead and had a spare one. Owning a LandRover used to mean, think of the worst thing that is likely to happen and then take spares for everything worse that you can think might happen. Since I left home in 1978, I‘ve never been in another Landie and I hope that doesn’t change in the future. Hateful sack of sh!t.

The old Defender was a utilitarian workhorse the new one is just another Chelsea tractor. I like the old one but only for what is was designed for, plugging about in the mud not for roadies other than getting to and from the mud

Between lockdowns I drove a low miles 2014 stock 110 defender with the same oil burner in it as the transit van.. yup had all the road manners of a JCB but was towing a loaded car trailer for 120 miles and it did the job rather well. Would i use one as a daily driver, no way as not an ounce of driving pleasure, but as a works machine.. yep.

Agree with that. As a low spec model they work either through a business or privately. Ditto for the Discovery but people speccing both up to lightly used FFRR prices are just nuts.

Would rather spend £7,000 to £10,000 on a mint as new top spec P38 imported from Japan.
Couldn't think of a nicer place to be for a wet, muddy snowy and icy winter anywhere in Europe.
That would be great.,but we aren't in Europe...
