Imports from USA

I have been having discussions with a chap about buying his 1970 Karmann Cab Beetle. He has informed me that on the documentation it says 'Salvage'. He spoke to a VW specialist who informed him that this is quite often the case as many of the imports come from salvagers. So, would I be right in thinking that this car was a 'written off' car?? He says it isn't....... Help please if anyone has come across this before.

Caveat emptor as ever....

Seems an easily acquired title in the States for a vehicle to get but it is in no way descriptive of any damage unlike the UK category system...

Can of worms. The American system is very generic, and each State has their own rules, but normally they can't be put on the road there. I came across quite a few salvage corvettes when I was looking for mine, easier to sell abroad than in the US.

Thanks all for the link and your thoughts. As you say it's very generic and doesn't really leave you none the wiser!!...... Maybe a bargaining tool if I decide to take it further. At least in the UK we have a grading for the severity of damage!!
