Very nice! Brings back a lot memories.... If we ever get over there, I do want to see you do some laps in her. I think you mentioned the rear trailing arms in a post. Are you using offset ones?

No, not offset but no handbrake so a little bit more clearance. Will probably run a 295/50R15 Avon on the rear.

I have a set of rare, offset chromoly tubular arms that use heim spherical ball joints in the front. Vintage racing legal. I'd like to see them go to a good car. Might you be interested?

Thanks for the offer but for the regs over here I need the standard type box section arm but they have got spherical joints in them.

Front suspension is rebuilt and on.

Steering relay rod disassembled for rebuilding.

Come to a grinding halt rebuilding the steering box though. Can’t get the pitman arm off. Tried heat, hammers, pullers the works but it’s not budging at the mo.

I remember getting a power steering rebuild kit from local Vauxhall dealer for mine. Loved the packaging, GM Corvette 1963 to date. :)

I meant from a design stand point it's 1940's steering box tech with an overly complex and heavy power assist system. I know it's a holdover from the C2's but you would think Chevy could have done better. BTW are you going to add a shock tower brace?

Yep. Pretty much the same as a Land Rover or Jeep. Although BMW were still using something similar on 5 series all the way up to the end of the V8 e39s.

Yes I’ll add a brace, was going to do that after the engine was in.

Have you got the arm of the steering box ?
Might need a heavier duty puller if it doesn't suddenly go bang and fall on the floor.

Not yet. I broke a decent one.left the puller on overnight and nowt. Have ordered a fixed leg one the right size. We’ll see how that goes.

The project is coming along nicely though so good luck.

Yep. Going to try for a lunchtime finish today and get the primer on the body. The only annoying thing is I did a dry build of the engine prior to lockdown so it’s all ready to go together except for I didn’t get the crank balanced so am stuck with that until lockdown is over.

Epoxy sealer on. Loads of body work still to do but at least that’ll be a while away yet.

Time for a beer or two mate.
A good bit of work done there.

Blimey it was hot in there this afternoon, it’s one extreme to another.

Last time I did a car it was snowing. I opened the garage door and it blew in onto the paint.

Not exactly spacious in there...!

That’s the third of the garage that doesn’t contain the rest of the Corvette.

Once I pop it on the chassis and get the front end on I’ll be back to being able to move around again.
