Got some different silencer inserts from the States as it was said that they’re acceptably quiet.

Well, they’re not, so that was a waste of money and need to come up with another option

If you get stuck an option would be to speak to Jason at PP Tuning who are based in Louth, Lincs (lives in the same village as me). He built me a replacement stainless steel exhaust for my Oldsmobile and also several of my friends Classic Mercs… https://pptuning.co.uk/

Got the cracked screen out.
92660

And started to fix the alignment issue with the header rail that caused me to crack the screen in the first place.

Just about got the roof catch/header corner fitting right now after a lot of filing and started getting the window fitted. Going to get that done before the screen goes in this time!

Ive also got the refund for the **** screen now and got a new one from American Glass in Church Stretton, not only localish to me it cheapest too.

hopefully without any stresses though.

Didn’t seem too bad to put the screen in but my Dad’s got to have radiotherapy for prostate cancer he told us yesterday so not exactly stress free! He seems ok about it and it seems confined so fingers crossed.

Been have trouble with the needle valve in the secondary float chamber and fuel overflowing, had it out, cleaned it and adjusted it a few times and but it randomly seems to stick.

So had the carb apart and found the float is holed, which is a bit of good news as it’s an identifiable fault I can fix.

Not entirely happy with the cooling system, expansion tank level and possible air locks. Going to add a small pipe from the top of the thermostat housing to the expansion tank to allow any air out. Also have raised the expansion tank by an inch, removing, cutting and welding the existing bracket. Someone was questioning in another thread why it costs so much to rebuild cars, this is why. Probably 6 hours labour to go from this:

Totally admire this project build Tim and yes doing a job properly takes time which many don't want to pay for :(
@lifes2short you should know better mate :)

Or “why does it need a new air filter?” Although to be honest I’m shocked at this I don’t reckon I’ve done more than 10000 miles since I serviced the Merc last.

Cooling system was back together with a bleed point from the high point on the thermostat housing to the header but the new closing plate for the housing was pissing out water. 30 mins with some wet and dry and a piece of glass and it’s still not flat. Did seem to cure the fluctuating temp gauge though.
