Immobilser advice

My car will start up ok (2005 QTP), but cuts out immediately. Everything was working perfectly before this, and I only pulled over to take a phone call. The fault has been traced to 'drivers door ECU'. Unfortunately at the time when it happened I was using a key made from a blank shell from ebay, with the gubbings transferred across, and i'd had no issues for months 'till now. The car starts and cuts out with my original key as well.

Can the immobiliser be reset? Or a new part required? Any advice appreciated.

Ah. Showing my ignorance here ( i thought there might be a connection, as the car wont start). Eurospares can't seem to find a drivers door ECU under their parts listings.

The car starts (you said) and then cuts out? The immobiliser will stop it from starting. It won't let it start and then cut it out. You'll also have a yellow CODE symbol on the dash (like a car with a padlock)

Does it always cut out right away, or only when you put it in gear? Wild guess is that the door open switch isn't and that's what's making (if it cuts when you put it in gear)

There's this part here:

https://www.eurospares.co.uk/parts/maserati/qtp-2005-42/bodywork-lighting/door-devices-46345

Which might just be the switches, but seems a little steep even by Maserati prices, but who diagnosed the fault?

Yes it starts first time, every time, but then cuts out immediately. I don't get the chance to put it in gear. I believe you are right with the dash symbol (I don't have the car to hand to check right now).

The fault was diagnosed by my local garage (non Maserati, and non specialist, but someone I trust), as i'm 5 hrs from a dealer.

Do you believe the cheap key was a contributing factor?!!

It's possible that it's causing the cut out, but I think unlikely.
I can't see any way it could impact using the original key.
I can see no way how it could cause any issues with the door ECU.

There have been instances when the antenna around the ignition barrel fails, but again, this would not start. (IMHO)

I think you need a better diagnosis. My guess is electrical but.....

If you have a cheap OBDII reader I'd take a look at any error stored in terms of the engine and associated services. I'm sure, though, that @conaero would have better ideas if he wasn't out getting ****** today ;)

Searching on other forums, and there doesn't seem to be a complete answer.

As my keys operate everything apart from a full start up, it's suggested elsewhere it will definately be the chip/transponder in the key. Like you Catman, and for various other reasons, im not so sure.

I agree with Catman, there is something else at play here. If it were a immo or tracker issue you wouldn’t get a start at all.
