If You Had A 5 Car Garage?

Interesting you chose the M3 CS over a CSL. Is that the manual thing ? I had a drive in a CS when I had. CSL and it was a great car but couldn't have one over the CSL....Wish I had kept it now looking at prices .

It's a tricky one, really. I got a bit of stick after my recent review of the Mercedes CLK Black vs BMW M3 CSL feature (I found in favour of the CLK Black). The CSL is an amazing car – when you're on it. In fact, I'd go as far to say it's the finest car I've driven on the limit, and that it's probably one of the best track cars you can get this side of more specialist stuff like Elises... But...

At anything less than nine-tenths that gearbox is an absolute pain. It's great if you're at maximum attack and on the right type of road/track, but tighter, more complex sections of road blunt the fun.And if you simply want to go fast but not maximum attack, it feels sulky. The Mercedes' bigger spread of torque mitigates its gearbox woes.

I've chatted to a few people M-related and they say that if the original M3 is half the car the CSL is, then the CS three-quarters. I reckon the trade off for a proper manual, more comfortable, useable seats etc is worth that margin. In an ideal world I'd have both.

The CS manual is also much rarer than a CSL – just 101 RHD were built, of which 93 remain, compared to 411 imported RHD CSLs.

Now, a manual CSL, that'd be something. Apparently a few exist – I can only imagine how great it can be...

Yes get your points. On track it really made sense .... It was also one of the best and unique sounding cars I've owned. Always tell a CSL was coming.

If you don't count my lawnmower, is this OK?

Thread resurrection :)

Quite apt as tonight I have an architect coming over to discuss how we can build a 4 car garage with a full height ramp for a 5th. Also need room for the little tractor and an office / store room / man cave.

I need to build me a 5 car garage.....although a 10 car would be better. It is on the new house build spec :)

Currently I'll have to settle for:
  1. Jaguar XJL SuperSport
  2. Aston Martin V8 Vantage
  3. Maserati 4200 CC
  4. TVR Chimaera 500
  5. Peugeot 306 GTi-6

I don't think 5 is enough as no room for a 4x4 or a daily snotter.

I’d really struggle, but it’s hypothetical;

MC12 Corsa
De Tomaso Mangusta
Maserati 250F
Ferrari 250 GT California
Pagani Zonda R

There’s another load I’d be equally happy with;

MC Victory, Stratos, Muira, Pantera, Alfa 33 Stradale, Chiron, any Koenigsegg, Cayman GT4, there’s soooooo many amazing cars out there, shame they’re all so blooming dear.

Most folk dream of any Maserati, Porsche, or Ferrari, which most of us have become so familiar with. We don’t know how lucky we are.....

I think this depends a bit on whether the question is what 5 cars would you have if they were the only cars you would be able to own, or what are the cars you would love to own, if money was no object, and you were still able to have a bunch of other cars that met your daily needs...

The 2nd question is more fun to answer, as it avoids having to chuck in a dog carrier, or something for the other half to take to Sainsbury’s / Azda / Lidl

Off the top of my head, I think a nice selection of five toy cars would be...

Pagani Zonda R
2019 911 GT3 RS
Mercedes 300SL Gullwing
Aston Martin DB5 convertible
Ferrari 250 GTO

Something old, something new, something open top, something to scare the living daylights out of you...

I’d go

F40
Ferrari 275GTB
Mercedes 300SL Gullwing
Aston Martin DB5
Porsche GT1 (or may be 959)

To Deans very relevant point, I’d use the DB5 to take the rubbish to the recycle Center :)
