My friend who received the car experienced it when he tried to restart the car first, it was due to an alarm cable which was partially disconnected somewhere according to him. The second source of problem is the car refused to start if the pump didn't start correctly when the car is unlocked.

Incredible! You got a real bargain, well done!

Very nice especially without the facelift grill it transforms the front of the car.
Looking forward to seeing her improve as you go along.

I did a first cleaning of the vents using Isopropylic alcohol 99% but I have still some area which are difficult to reach (white area for example in the central vent). The surface is not sticky anymore but it's better to pass a second time to make it really clean before grinding/painting.

I have a small question : did anyone tried to replace the Info Center module by something more how to say more fonctionnal (Info Center screen visibility is very low)?
Can it be replaced or is it part of an essential system ?

My target would be to replace it by something like this one :

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Do you have the references associated ? Thanks in advance
I got a pair of them from clover breakers. £15 for 2 in excellent condition.
Outside pair are the same as Alfa 166.
Centre dash is bigger, unsure what one fits it. (Still looking)

I will stick to my DIY plan, and if the result is not satisfying, I will use the solution of the Alfa 166 vents. Thanks for the info

Lorenzo on the US forum restores the buttons and vents to as new factory condition. IMO it is better to do this than than buying new ones because it is cheaper and reduces waste

The center vents are extremely difficult to remove as it has bolt heads which face the opposite direction to you. You will need to partially disassemble the dash to remove them. I can link the relevant threads if you like but the info is on the heater matrix diy thread

Oh that reminds me, check your heater matrix ASAP because they all fail eventually. Check for signs of coolant leaking into the void behind the center console and passenger footwell by removing the kick plate in the passenger footplate which covers the fuse box and feel around for damp patches especially on the wiring looms

Ahhh like old times on the Alfa forum. The 166 heater matrix used to leak, onto the ECU. The default mod was to insert plastic sheet. :D

I used a bit of breathable roofing felt. I hope it’s still there. Although I expect everything else around it has long since disappeared

My 166 was nearly perfect, lost a fair bit of oil which I don't miss, was a TS, compared to the QP tho it was slow, less agile and not much difference in economy apart from cruising on motorway, got 42mph out of it.

I think about finding another but why go back down the stairs when I'm quite happy on the landing?

I’ve had a 156 before and I’d love to own one again preferably in GTA form. I like the 166 interior seats though they were very comfortable from what I remember.

Afetr having read multiple threads in maseratilife and here, basically the info center itself is useful for the warning light and for the light sensor, outside that it has no lock function or engine function, and is duplicating information from other modules (AC and others). I saw also on this thread that somebody used 3D printing an carbon covers to replace existing info center solution by someting much more functionnal and recent :
For the electrical scheme, I found other topic dealing with that.
I will focus on the cleaning / painting this weekend and try to get the 3D models.

you remember very well, the seats in my 166 were hard to beat for comfort and looks. May last one was (less desirable) auto 3.0 with optional Nav and Bose sound upgrade bought for 2 grand!

Result of the painting/refurbishing :
  • comparaison just after the light grinding with paper 1000 and after painting
  • before first painting layer on the paper support
  • final results after 7 layers spaced by 20 minutes each
The vents are rotating perfectly.

Next step : wait 24 hours more to finish fixing the painting and integration tomorrow on the dashboard (fronts and backs)
