Hybrid turbo research

Hi,
Just doing some initial looking at further tuning.
The tuner I use here does a lot of hybrid turbos for the Golf R. I asked if the same could be done for the QP6gts I have. Does anyone have any info on the stock units? Also looking at 2 bespoke intercoolers. The turbos are maxed out at 600bhp and out of their most efficient curve so they build heat very rapidly on IATs, so much so that it can end up being slower than stock after long pulls in summer here in UAE.
Looking at meth injection as well which seems to work well over here as well.

3.0 or 3.8?
Both have the turbine integrated in the exhaust manifold casting.
As for testing here we've only done 3.0's at 500 hp & 700nm in the past (because the awd gearbox is rated to 700)

I have looked into upgrading the turbine's but for now there is not enough interest in Europe to warrant the R&D

Gts as stated so 3.8.
So far we're at 580bhp but apparently maxed out as turbos are quite small.
Who make the turbos? Ihi?

150 seems a bit weak these days. My 3L BMW diesel can get to low 170s.

If you are going water/meth go for a 2 stage kit. I had it on my TTRS and it worked brilliantly; intake temps went down even after repeated Dyno pulls.

I've contacted Turbo dynamics and they've never even looked at a v8TT Maserati so it would be a development build. I should probably just buy something with more testing like a cls63 but love the Maser. Just sometimes feels it was hobbled a bit by Ferrari. Going to speak to my local tuner again.

Personally, if you are going that far, I’d get the housings machined for a bigger compressor with high efficiency blades. Then get it tuned. You wouldn’t have to go much bigger to get a noticeable improvement, but don’t go too big or you’ll compromise drivability.

That's exactly what the local tuner has suggested. Currently on hold as someone drove into the back of me at a junction, fairly minor. Then whole family got covid......

well we survived, car is with tuner now having a look at different options plus a full service. Car returned quite well repaired from bump. Do still keep looking at CLS63S though.

Try Pure and TTE (The Turbo Engineers). I went with the latter for upgraded turbos on my CLS63 and ran around 920bhp. Needs quite a bit of other work but the mapping is key.98555

The hybrid turbo on my old TTRS was made by Pure and it was almost a work of art. Apparently the guy who now has it does ‘street racing’ and thrashes it everywhere, but it is proving ultra reliable despite pushing around 700bhp from a 2.5L 5 pot. Not cheap but certainly recommende.
