HVAC fogging and issues with heat

We have seen many QP6/Ghibli/Levante now and they have faired well but one issue keeps coming back. After a search round on the net, there is nothing definitive so I thought I would start one.

Item 3 (4 in total) in the above are the motorised actuators that perform various functions that move and change the air about.

The above drawing is form a LHD car so you have to mirror it.

The main box at the front houses 3 actuators, the single lower one is responsible for hot or cold to the passenger and regularly fails

The one at the back on the separate fan unit is the RECIRC air...as in fresh from outside or from the cabin.

We had a Levante in that was fogging the screen and during my web searching loads of others are having the same problem.

The is a failed resurc actuator which basically is stuck recirculating damp air and thus fogging the cabin.

The upper pair on the main unit I have yet to replace but these are for the distribution of the air, up, down or middle for each side.

Anyway, this may help a few out there with weird HVAC issues.

Getting to them and changing them is another matter.

Both the RECIRC and Pass temp one you can remove the lower tray and glove box and with a lot of swearing and skin missing from your knuckles, they can be done but I suspect the uppers will be dash out.

Interesting post.
Many years ago I had a similar issue on a Fiat Bravo. It was exactly the same issue. A very cheap and easy fix for this was I simply opened the flap (that the actuator operated, it was situated under the scuttle panel) and physically jammed it open.
The fogging went away instantly and never came back. I obviously did lose the use of recirc but honestly never missed it

I thought the method for unfogging was to switch to recirc and put let your aircon dry out the air...

We have got an XKR jag which has this fogging problem and 3 garages haven’t managed to sort it out. I’d love to shove something in its circulation flap, if only I knew where it was!

When the outside temp is less than 4c (ish) the aircon won't work and the fogging will get worse

Usually in the driver's seat :)

I hear there's a software update as well to prevent the actuators reaching the full stop of their travel and getting stuck.

Could be internet mythbollox though

The motors do fail completely so I would agree with you on that one.
