Hunting a Gran Turismo: 4.2 vs 4.7 ?

Hi all thinking of a GT for a summer car, can’t find to much around the differences, pros and cons between the 2?

So to start I’m not after massive speed, came from a background of GTRs & my last sports car was a 750hp M6. I understand the GT of either flavour will not deliver that kind of power, I’m after a something that looks pretty and gives me a good noise (living next to the Tyne tunnel in the UK gives me an excuse )

With that said is the 4.7 really that much quicker than the 4.2? Am I trading the possibility of more problems going 4.7 over 4.2 for little reward?

What’s the common issues with the 4.2 & the 4.7, and well I guess GTs in general?

Any advice and common gotchas would be great to hear, also the I got a 4.2 and wish I got a 4.7 stories and the reasoning.

Thanks

Lots on that very subject on here.
4.7 of course if you can stretch, MC-Shift for the best noise available (or Strad). Different timing on MC-Shift engines and the sound is elevated compared to the Auto gearboxes with different engine timing.
Do try a few variants… and you’ll end up with a Strad

I'm also looking for a 4.7. I don't think the difference is much in terms of performance. However, the prices of 4.2's are dropping in price more than 4.7.
Need to think about manual or auto. Clutches are quite pricey £3k. Subframes rust. Suspension issues, brake discs are pricey. Possible variator issues with engines before 2010...

Mark, welcome to the forum and you will get lots of good advice. The great thing about Maseratis is the ability to enjoy them at all speeds, including slowly around town. I also had a V8 M6 and sold it after 6 months as it was soulless by comparison despite being superior in every measurable way. The key is to buy the best car for your budget as there is no such thing as a cheap Maser in the long term. You can spend a lot of money putting a bad one right so better to pay a but more from an enthusiast on here or from a trusted specialist like Richard Grace. Like most Italian cars, they iron out issues during production so there are less issues with later cars - I would look for a post 2011/12 4.7 (MC Shift for me for more involvement and shorter gearing but the autos are very good too). You won't regret it if you buy a good one...,

Tongue in cheek ,Most and nearly all Maserati's will beat Audi's Bmw's, Mercedes and VW at exactly 156 mph , Like you I have German because they are like a good tin of Ronseal, but there are times where another type of finish is required, I can assure you , you will spend a lot more time in that tunnel , or in town traffic gloating at how good you look in the shop windows
