Hi Peeps,

Car is coming to the end of its warranty, it's a 64 plate on 11,000 miles. I do about 4000 miles a year and the car has full main dealer history.

I've been quoted around 1.4K from Warranty Wise for a platinum plus policy. Considering my annual mileage, the condition of the car and its history i'm weighing up whether it's worth it?

Canvasing opinion and thoughts....worth it?

I went for an AA breakdown policy which contributes up to £500 to selected repairs. Cost £75.

I have the AA breakdown policy on both my cars. 4 claims a year up to £500 each . I pay £27 a month for both . They paid £500 towards my 4200 clutch when it went and also paid for new air springs on my Audi . I really must break down again soon .

Have you got a price from Maserati as well? I bought two years worth (years 4 & 5) and it was a lot cheaper buying both together but the euro was weaker then.

On your miles it might not be worth bothering. I probably did not quite break even on mine - needed a new a/c compressor and springs. If I was in the same position again I would pass on the extended warranty.

Warranties are always a tough decision, I should have taken it out on the Spyder but didn't. I did on our last RR and was massively in credit over the 2 years. I have it on the current RR but to date no sign of any issues - I still have 18 mths on it though and the suspension is bound to fail by then, they always do.

as Andy said tough decision - I had cover on the GS for 2yr and no issues, had similar quote to you. deicided to take advise on here and put the money aside to help cover any possible issues, after 2yrs I had about £3,000

Thanks for the replies.

I think it's probably worth the risk on this occasion and keeping a slush fund just incase of issues. The car has a pampered life so don't expect any issues considering the usage and mileage.

My 3 year WD policy runs out around next April, had a couple claims but in the end they will be up not me. For that reason I don’t think I’ll renew.

I’ll look to pocket as a war chest.

Oh ye of little faith Andy. Your RR suspension will be fine. Mine is 4 years older than yours and is still as good as new after 85000 miles. It's a Land Rover, not a Maser! As a guide, in repairs I'd say the supercharged RR costs a fifth of a modern Maser (per year/mile).

To the OP, I've never bothered with an extended warranty. But that's largely because I have an inherent suspicion that whenever I needed to claim, they'd think up a reason to decline.

If I still had all the money I've spent on servicing/repairing/running my last 18 Maseratis.....I'd buy another Maserati!

Just a word of advice if you have Maserati extended warranty. Make sure you have all the Maserati recommendations done when serviced or warranty is voided. Check on here for a thread about this, a few of us have fallen foul of this.

I had an extended warranty on my first GT but after it had lapsed I didn't take it out again and nothing was required.
I think the GT is a pretty sorted car and doesn't often go majorly wrong.

I got a 3 year aftermarket warranty with my GTS.
Already had front parking sensor and steering rack replaced with no issues - it will also cover 50/50 parts and labour on a the clutch, worth every penny.
Best deals are from the dealer when buying the car.

I had the extended 4/5 year warranty on my sport... very glad I did... Absolutely no quibbles from Maserati on anything... few minor issues..rubbing hoses etc... But a couple of biggies ... Cam cover oil leak, and Auto transmission problems... Both fixed immediately and with the tranny they did not even bother looking for a fault to repair... simply replaced the whole lot.... mind you I do a bit more than your 4000 mls pa..So I'm very happy to be quids in..

Beyond 5 years Maserati will only cover engine and drive train ... and it's pricey... as It's now got a new auto box and the engines are pretty bullet proof I've not bothered to renew further..

Hi guys & girls,

I took out a relatively cheap Autoguard warranty through these people www.vehiclewarranty4u.co.uk and it has already paid for itself. On my previous Audi S8, the same warranty had a £1000 claim limit, but no excess and unlimited claims. The 4 claims I made were well over the £700 (for 3 years) I paid for the warranty.

For the 2005 Maserati, I have a lower £750/claim limit and it was £700 for just 2 years, but they've already paid for the front passenger window motor/regulator which was about £520, and they are about to contribute £750 for a faulty ABS sensor/bearing.

Of course, it won't be much help if anything really major goes wrong, but at £350/year, it's a bargain.

Thread resurrection folks - the Strad is into extended warranty territory this summer. Still loving it and driving it regularly as a long term keeper - warranty claims to date have only needed to be on 2 batteries, rear parking sensors and on de-laminating carbon fibre door handles. All done effortlessly via Gray Paul Nottingham (who are excellent).

Any recent insights into the cost and whether its worthwhile doing years 4&5 together to save costs is much appreciated. Is the warranty transferable to a new owner if a sale ever took place in the coming 24 months?

Thanks in advance, Craig

Mine thankfully came with year 4&5 Maserati. Invoice came with the car which was an eye watering £3740.00
I have it booked in for a handful of leaks, rear boot button and an error on the Gbox which could be the pump, which I would suspect would superceed this cost so like anything you’ll only wish you had if you don’t and visa.
