So I charge the battery on trickle with battery switched off... it’s fully charged, so I remove charger and switch back on.... or so I thought... slam boot shut and it appears I haven’t turned it enough....car completely dead....can’t open boot.... can get in car, (though now can’t shut the door again, but at least it’s garaged)
What can be done?

Edit to say, 4200 facelift

do you have a local friendly pikey that lives nearby, I'm sure they have the right tools for the job;)

The key very rarely gets used so it's worth using the key & lubricating it every year to stop it seizing up.

I always use the key in my 3200 as using the button in the glove tends to cause a paddy. Perfect in my 4200 though, although I do sometimes use the key just cos I can. No really, I think it keeps the lock in better condition if you use it.

Good point!! I had a 996 a few years ago that I sold on. The new owner rang me about a month later saying that the battery died when he was on holiday and when he tried entry via the key it just kept turning and not opening. All I could say was I always unlocked it with the remote, so had never used the key to gain entry into the car!! Truth..... Honest Governor!!
