However after looking at my ideas, the fact I want no pillars and that I want the mezzanine floor space to be a fully fitted man cave he advised that a steel internal structure would be the best solution.

yup, steel internal frame is best option if you want big open spans, which is what i required with mine

A neighbour has suggested selling me a little bit of land to create a parking space, or to put up a garage or carport. Anyone got any good info or suggestions around this? I'm wondering about price, and costs, and planning, and what sort of structure to build.

I don't need anything grand or secure. It is more about keeping the weather off the cars, and maybe adding some value by showing potential buyers (one day) that there is a 'garage' near the front door.

Maybe something a bit 'rustic' like this:

Or this:

The site is on a bit of a slope, so it may be best to build a three-sided 'bunker' with gabions or faced concrete, and then drop a free-standing garage or carport into it.

Given the weather on your side I would make is fully enclosed, I’m sure that would also add more value. It’s great to have room for a little workshop, even if only a bench where you can keep your tools etc. and being able to work totally out of the weather. Maybe some space to keep firewood dry. Also nice to escape if you’re ever in the dog house ;)

With regards to planning it really depends on what the land you would be buying is classified as, you wouldn't have permitted development rights that's for sure because it's not in the original garden curtilage.
