I hit one in the old mini once, couldn't figure out where it went, fast forward a few months until I went to change a cv joint, ah it had spun itself into some kind of rope around the drive shaft!!!

They appear to set off in the direction they are facing when approached by a car. Rarely do they turn about in my experience so I either drive straight on or swerve away from what their direction I guess they will be heading.
Driving back from Aberdeen many years ago in a hire car we hit a cow! The **** came right through the windscreen. No other damage and the police allowed us to drive home 300 odd miles. Bloomin' freezing!

Camels are very bad as well. (Same like Elk I guess) Weigh a bloody ton with silly, spindly legs. So when you hit them the major mass topples right into the windscreen.

You're not wrong. Spindly legs holding up 1/2 ton of animal with antlers.
Legs snap without any resistance leaving the body to go neatly through the windscreen!!

apologies for the irritating orientation, but is this the kind of thing you mean?

Looks like it happens in Norway too. I hear they hang around in tunnels in the summer to cool off.

I had a job to Ullapool 25 years ago , got to Inverness and though not far now , only another 2 bloody hours.

I was delivering a coupling eye to the army , they'd snapped one on the beach and the trailer wasn't going anywhere

It was June and past midnight , I've never experienced light like it , like dusk but not getting any darker , headlights don't do much but the light not bright enough for clear vision .

I came round a bend doing about 50 with the high beams on and the eyes reflected back

A herd of deer in the road , to this day I have no idea how I missed them , really shook me up I had to stop for 5 minutes.

Got to where the army were , ships, helicopters and thousands of soldiers

It was gone 1am by then I was knackered , got taken to an officer by a soldier , I was falling asleep standing up while he was doing the foot stamping and saluting while I was just thinking somebody please take this ******* box off me

Had a great nights sleep in a b&b , got woken by a phone call

Have you delivered that eye

Yes 1am

Here's who signed for it

A bit later on another call

They've found it , numbnuts had put it on a truck which was in Glasgow by the time they realised.

Bloody pheasants, I hit one a few years ago in north wales in the Gransport two ran out, first one i missed didnt see his mate, hit with a mass of feathers everywhere, mind you i was clogging it at the time. wasnt much left of the thing when i stopped up the road, its amazing how much damage they cause, knackered the front nearside bumper/spoiler went into the air intake and smashed the air filter and box. When i got back spent an interesting half hour with a jet wash and a rubber glove pulling what was left of it out. couple of grands worth of damage in the end.

And to add insult to injury, as their bones are so light they shatter into the flesh, so ruined for the pot too.

At least deer can be used after a collision.

I hit a little bunny (it was March, suspect it was a wee toddler) on my way to work in Glasgae, road was narrow couldn't avoid it, bump, bump. Then 2 miles later entering the M74 tw@tted a seagull, the stupid bird flew right in front of me. On the way home the wee bunny was there, flat a a pancake. Guilty your Honour....

Working in Wales driving along the M50 a pigeon swooped down in front of me for a bit of food in the road, probably the worst decision it ever made, heard it bounce along the floorpan, and then a cloud of feather in my rear view mirror.

20 mins later on M5, an already flat rabbit bounced off my windscreen, truck in front had done the damage, but I probably delivered the coup de grace....

My mate hit a deer around Tebay on the M6, wrote off his company Vectra, which is a good thing, so the deer didn't die in vain.

Just plucked the feathers from the wheel arches this morning. Thank you boys.

Awaiting Dan's lowloader services.

I need to fire her up for 5 minutes to allow Dan lowloader access next week.
I'm pretty sure that the reservoir is quite empty. I don't wish to damage the pump, and the steering is almost impossible.

I want to top her up when Dan arrives. The fluid is standard DEXRON II stuff, but the handbook doesn't indicate capacity (whereas it does for all other fluids, fuff)

Any idea what it is or how much to pour in for an expedient?

Any other year a good percentage of the pheasant would have been shot already but lockdown has suspended the season; back on next weekend (except tier 3) so road casualties should drop quickly and bag at the shoot should be epic!

Well they are still shooting here, but the police did intervene at 3 Gloucestershire 'hare coarsing ' this month

If you put it in it’s just going to **** out. Steering will be ok when it’s moving a bit.

My tally of dead pheasants must be in the hundreds by now, all bumped off whilst driving freight trains, the dull thud they make against the front of the loco is oddly satisfying!
