Was at the local hospital this morning only for 30 minutes.
Came back to my car (BMW) to find someone had reversed into the rear bumper, scuffed, and the lower section had popped out from the plastic clips.
No note.
Went back inside to the help desk, to enquire about CCTV footage.
We can only release footage if requested by the police, normally through your insurance company. Was a bit miffed to say the least.
Anyway on my way home popped into my local body shop, and fortunately they managed to clip back in the lower plastic bumper, and a quick wash, probably due to all the polish and wax on the bumper, the scuffs washed off. So lucky.
I've a forward facing dashcam, looks like a rear one is required.
Can't believe who ever did it just drove off, it looked a right mess at that point.
The car park wasnt even full and I parked away in the corner too.

The answer came very quickly, obviously a regular occurrence.
But thinking about it, probability is that being in a hospital car park, the age of drivers is likely to be higher, and dare I say it, some shouldn't be driving.
The police/insurance company thing, its a bit of a risk going down this route, without knowing you will get details of the driver before claiming. If you have a registration and evidence you know if would be a no fault claim. Still a pain for 5 years. If they can't turn up the footage until the claim is logged, you are in the system, and if they can't get any footage, its a claim against you, in the insurance eyes anyway.

I wonder if you get the police to get the CCTV you can go to DVLA for details with legitimate interest, you're not into the insurance process *yet*...

I think trying to get the police directly to look into getting a CCTV footage in what is a private car park for a traffic knock would be a tough one.
I also think getting your insurance company to get the police for a car park knock will also be a tough one, and they would probably just repair with a knock on your insurance.
Of course, if the hospital just rewound 20 minutes from the nearest camera at the time, with a car reg, even just a snap of the monitor screen showing the car kissing mine, job done.
Fortunately no (insignificant) damage at the end of the day in this case.
However in future will make more effort to reverse park where possible, with the dashcam in view out front. Worked a few years ago, again fortunately no damage but the third part saw the camera and waited until I returned.
I probably won't add a rear camera to my BMW, but when I change it for a newer more valuable car, certainly will. Sad really.

I can’t see how there statement about police requesting footage is true, no crime has been committed as it wasn’t on the public highway, you can be done for dangerous driving on private land but not for not exchanging details after a minor bump.

Also as far as owner details. Anyone can ask the DVLA for ownership details of a reg as long as they have a valid reason.

Good point.
Don't get bumped, especially on private land, which of course will be every carpark.
Think i'll buy an old Defender with galvanised bumpers.

CCTV at a retailer last Christmas saved my NCD (yes it is protected but that doesn't stop premiums increasing!). I was stationary awaiting a parking space when someone misjudged their route around my car and scuffed the wing and bumper on the CL. No big deal, exchanged details and offered to get it fixed for c500 on a subsequent phone call. Offer declined so I went through insurance only to find the third party was now blaming me, claiming I had driven into her! CCTV footage was sent directly to my insurer (GDPR prevented them sending to me) to prove I was stationary at the matter resolved a few weeks later. If not for the CCTV, I suspect we may have finished at knock for knock.....

The other party should be penalised for giving false information following video evidence!

The problem with involving insurers with small bumps is that regardless of blame your insurance notes you were involved in an accident / claim and it has to be declared for 5 years.
If it then ends up knocking for knock that premium increase will affect all your insurance policies not just the car you were driving.
I had a number of “no fault claims” a decade ago in which I dealt direct with the other parties insurance, but still had to claim and then had one underwriter opt out of covering me the following year.

Agree Mike! If it went to court it would be taken very seriously (perjury) but unfortunately I don't think lying, cheating, loss of moral compass seems to carry much weight anymore....It's all about 'me, me, me gain, you lose, I couldn't care less'. Nearly a royal joke in there..... Whilst leaders globally lie on an industrial scale, it seems to have given it all a level of acceptance.

Yes I know.
Last no faults claim was a pain in the ****, only now over 5 years don't have to declare it, on 4 different insurance policies, so 20 times!

I'm glad it wasn't as much damage as you feared, Mike.

I have front and rear on mine. It was mostly the risk of insurance fraud that motivated me to get it fitted. These f**kwits jumping on your bonnet, pushing a moped backwards into the front, that kind of nonsense from low-life grifters who frankly need hanging up by the thumbs while they contemplate their approach to gainful employment.

I am glad the damage is not substantial, and thinking out of the box here, but if you were to complain to the hospital (is it a private one?) exactly because it is a private car park (and they don't cooperate with cctv) and say i am looking at your business as responsible here, whether that would motivate them?

Wildly unlikely I suspect. I've yet to see a car park in the UK that doesn't have a million 'The owners accept no liability etc etc'

i have had this several times. Once on the 3200 where a generously propotioned lady got her friend to take a selfie while she sat on the bonnet, and managed to damage the bumper. It didnt take that much to fix, but it was annoying and I saw it happen from a distance but too far away to get there in time to do anything about it.
