First of all, I hope your all staying safe and well.

Gents, I have just bought a 2010MY Maserati GTS and absolutely love it, unfortunately I have got a few faults which I want to address one at a time.

The fault I want to address first is, when I press the sport button it does not open or close the valves even if I’m driving at 70mph and the rpm is above 3000rpm, is this a common fault with a car this age, If so, what should I be checking first, any advice would be much appreciated.

Also, I’m after purchasing a X pipe are they pretty much all the same.

However as a newbie im concerned at your levels of tolerance to an unruly lot ..................i hope there gonna be high enjoy and welcome to the fold

Welcome. Get under and check the valves on the rear boxes move freely. If not, pull in your warranty (assuming it was a dealer sale)
They can be freed off depending how badly rusted they are. They can be cut out and replaced with ebay items. The 'proper' fix is to replace the rear boxes which will cause a significant pain in the wallet.

If they do move, get back to us. Further tips around solenoids and vacuum will follow :)

Welcome, lovely looking steed but I’m slightly biased.
As it’s an auto I believe the valves should open at 3000 rpm when in sport mode.
Sounds like the valves could be stuck. Take it to the dealer?
Xpipes are pretty much all the same. £360 inc vat and delivery from Marios at Autoshield Maserati, made to order in 7-10 days. Was pleased with the outcome when I fitted mine.

I guess the first question is, are they open all the time or closed? If the valves move then it's probably just a fuse or something quite straightforward.

Lovely colour by the way!

X-pipe makes it louder, and sound better.

Where in Kent are you?

Hi, yes, they both valves move freely.

and they return comfortably to their 'neutral' position, under spring tension?

If the engine is running and you move the valves can you hear the note change?

If so sounds like you're not getting any suck and they're in their naturally open position (already)

OR (and this would be a first) the solenoid has failed open they are closed all the time (except immediately after start). You can pull the hose off one of the valves and see if it moves at all.

Also, pull the rubber hose and check that it's sucking like a good 'un.

Anyway, what an utterly gorgeous car. Very well done (and a warm welcome).

If you bought the car with the valves not working and have not heard the glorious sound of a GTS you are in for a real treat when it’s sorted.

Hopefully nothing serious.

Hi Geoff, I'm not mechanically minded at all so I hope I'm getting this right, I think the valves must be in the closed position as when the car is started it's really quite and remains quite no matter what, I've got under the car and the valves move freely if I push them and then they return to normal.

I have also emailed autoshield maserati and will be ordering an x pipe from them , plus I live near brandshatch.

Hi, yes they return comfortably to their 'neutral' position, under spring tension? I will try what you have suggested in the morning, thank you for your help.

Normal is open not closed. The valves are sprung to open They are sucked closed.

My money would be on a vacuum issue.
Did you buy it private or through a dealer?

I’m just outside Ashford.

Hi Geoff, I bought it from a small dealer who trades from home, so not a main dealership so to speak, it come with a 6 month warranty but to be honest I don't hold much faith in warranties (unless it's from a main dealer), any old excuss not to pay out, I will do a few basic checks tomorrow morning as suggested by a few members on here, should that fail I will take the route of installing a valve bypass, I can buy the bits needed from Ebay for £50, I will also be ordering a x pipe tomorrow from autoshield Maserati so hopefully will sound really nice.

And Ashford is about 30 minutes from me so not to far.
